Constant Nosebleeds? Help.

Okay. Ever since I have had my surgery when I was four, I have had these nosebleeds. Starting at the age of 14 they started to get worse. Like, I would be standing there talking to you and my nose would hush out with blood. I'm 18 now, live in Michigan and it's becoming a every other day thing. My nose bleeds come out of one side of my nose(left side.) and I can most of the time taste it going down the back of my throat. I was told to just put Vaseline to moisten my nose but doesn't seem to work.

Tonight, my nosebleed started in the back of my throat and then my nose. I'm a little light headed because I had a headache before it happened. I don't know if my nosebleed has stopped yet though. It stopped bleeding through my nose but I can still taste the blood in the back of my throat.

What are some good ways to help a nosebleed. I am not laying down until I know it has stopped! I tried an ice pack, tissues, blowing my nose, holding the bridge of my nose.

Sometimes they just don't work.

Please help...

Sami.

You need medical help. Are you able to get medical treatment. It sounds like you need cauterisation. 😜

I was to do that by a doctor about two years ago when I first moved up here. I'm going to try to talk to my doctor todY after second hour in class, because I just had a nothing one earlier. Thank you for the reply(:

Hello Sami,

You don't mention if you take any medicines either prescribed or bought over the counter and some of these can cause nose bleeds. Aspirin is a common culprit. In the case of my sister it was a blood pressure medication so this is worth having in mind. In your case a would guess it is a small blood vessel that bleeds from time to time and this could be treated by an ear nose and throat specialist. Perhaps you could also get a full blood count done by your doctor to exclude some other causes and to check that the nosebleeds are not causing anaemia. Also check out your blood pressure. Although you are still young it doesn't preclude high blood pressure and nosebleeds could be a sign of this. As it seems to be impacting your life in a negative way it would be worth discussing all aspects with your doctor and taking some further action to resolve it.

Remaining seated in an upright slightly forward tilting position whilst firmly pinching the nostrils together just below the bony bridge of the nose for 10 minutes is the classic treatment. Leaning forward slightly may prevent blood trickling down the throat. Avoid blowing the nose for some hours as this will only dislodge the clot that forms to seal off the leak so to speak. An ice pack may help but it is mostly the pressure and allowing time that does the job. Hot drinks should be avoided for a couple of hours as this may cause the blood vessels to dilate and start bleeding again. Keeping the nose membranes moist is important and perhaps a little olive or coconut oil applied on a cotton wool bud at other times than when your nose is bleeding would help this, as well as making sure that you drink plenty of plain water every day to ensure that dehydration is not contributing to this problem.

I hope this helps. You have been suffering from this for long enough and I know you can be healed. It's just a case of finding the causes and treating them. Every lock has a key! Good luck and good health to you Sami.

High dose vit C is good for strengthening the walls of the capillaries .

Also are you taking any blood thinning agents? Your GP can do a blood test for prothrombin times to look at how quickly your blood clots. If it is not clotting properly you may need vit k injections. I wonder if you have any gut problems leading to loss of an intrinsic factor, or simply a blood disorder ?

My doctor has made me done tests and there all normal. She just tells me to put Vaseline to moisten the walls in my nose. I have GERD and minor gas in my stomach but that's the only thing I can think of I have issues with my "gut." Im not sure, I'm hoping to talk to her after my second hour class. Thank you for the helpful advice!

Checking vitamin status isn't a standard blood test especially vit k. You may need to also chat to ENT who did the op to see if cauterisation would help. Your GP can assist with all these things. I wish you good luck with it.
