Cancer on Tongue

Am in hospital having had cancerous growth removed from my tongue. Head & neck Ops are hell with violence so now full of scars and bruises. Original cause was thrush on my tongue that became cancerous. No treatment was offered for the thrush. It was just monitored. does anyone know what treatment might have been available please?

I don't know the answer to your question but I just had to say OHMIGD! I've never heard of anything so awful. Surgery on your tongue must be excruciatingly painful and the recovery must be a nightmare. I never ever heard of thrush on the tongue turning cancerous. You poor thing, I am sending you lots of luck and love for your surgery and treatment. Please let me know how you get on. Jeez, how long did it take to get that diagnosis? What a shock for you. Please get well soon, much love, Jane xx

I have had several bouts of oral thrust caused by mammoth amounts of antibiotics. I have a pack of antifungal tablets prescribed along with my steroids and self prescribed antibiotics. I believe the spelling is Flucloxicillin. Forgive my not looking but I am in bed for the day and answering via a phone. If it doesn't Google correctly please PM me and I will get the box out tomorrow.

I hasten to add that this reply in no way suggests that it would have been appropriate to your thrush. I merely answer the question asked.

May I take the opportunity to wish you well and a full recovery. Regards Rib

You might want to ask your doctor a few more questions about the relationship of the thrush to the cancer. I couldn't find anything that suggested that thrush causes cancer, but did find that if you have cancer you can get thrush more easily. It might be that you already had the cancer developing before you started getting the thrush. If it worries you that you might not have had treatment early enough, then I think you need to know more. A second opinion might help if you don't totally trust the doctor treating you.

Thrush is a fungus and I have it in my esophagus and am going for probes next week. The doctors should have given you an anti fungal medication. That's horrible, that they knew and did nothing. It should never have been monitored but treated. That's crazy. xxx Mitzi
