amitriptyline supply: does anyone know where I... - Pain Concern
amitriptyline supply
If you live in the UK and ask your GP he will prescribe you enough to cover you holiday.
To buy any prescription drugs you need a prescription first.

Your GP should be able to approve an extended supply. I've also been asked once before to sign for additional meds at the chemist if I am claiming more than a months supply for going on holiday. The other option, which is always useful anyway, is to get a letter from your GP on their letterhead with their medical practitioner registration number on, listing all your meds. That way if you do have to front up to a strange doctor for an emergency supply you have proof of what you are prescribed.
In Spain you can buy over the counter without prescription or on line
Hello can you still get amitryptiline over the counter in spain or online and if you can whats the online address to buy it. Thanks very much
brilliant idea earthwitch, thanks
thinking spain would be nice spainrosie, but a bit out of our remit unfortunately, we had Scotland in mind..
You can get an extra prescription for holidays from your GP, but there should be no problem on holiday if you are in Great Britain anyway, you can go to any doctor or hospital and get a prescription in an emergency, or a walk in centre. There are also private GPs where you pay for it including the consultation. Most NHS GPs will supply a private prescription too at a price.
Ask your Dr for an extra Holiday supply, that's what I do.I also ask for a letter so if I get stopped by customs I can prove the drugs that I have are for my own medicinal use, this really important if you have controlled drugs, such as Morphine,Oromorph ect. Depending on where you are going, but I managed to get an emergency supply in the USA when I had my bag stolen, this is where the letter also comes in handy, the Dr. I saw faxed an inquiry to my Dr. and they confirmed what I was taking and how much. I'm with you, you can't stop a lot of drugs for pain relief as the sudden withdrawal can be dangerous and debilitating.
i just asked my doctor for an extra 3 months worth so i did not run out whilst away I was away sailing around the caribbean for 10 years and it was only once that i was close to running out before my mail caught up with me my chemist use to collect my prescriptions and mail out my meds and i had a carrier bag full every 2 months. as long as your doctor gives you the script then the chemist has to fill it, it should not be their decision whether you can have more than one month at a time.
thank you all for your advice, I will get my GP to issue a letter for any other doctors I have to visit, however as my normal surgery can't organise a simple prescription to the local chemist without my having to make 3 journeys back and forth between them I am a little nervous!
Make sure you take med with you, i had 2 experience forgetting to take med on trips and had withdrawal, one a 3 day trip to Fiji when we lived in Australia. We had to cut the trip short.
