Causes if hip pain at 19/20. I was diagnosed with dysplasia as a baby, treated and fear it's returned. Help! In lots of pain.

I was diagnosed for hip dysplasia as a baby and had it treated. I had no issues as a child and throughout my young teens, but around 17 I was experiencing increasingly painful hips after work, which left me unable to walk for a few hours after shifts. It was only working which caused this however, I could walk fine, was fit and healthy and did my DofE and other hikes with no issues. However by 18/19 my hips have gotten to the point now where I cannot do anything, sitting, standing, running, walking etc. the turning point which kick started me in going to the doctors was in Christmas just gone for no reason my hips locked up and I was in excruciating pain for a good few hours. After that point my hips have been getting worse and worse and I'm now left in horrific hip and back and knee pain.

I went to the hospital and had X-rays of my hips and found nothing, and the consultant exam was no better, all he could suggest was "a tear" andd nothing more. So I had to do a lot of research myself, however I'm doubting it's simply a Tear, as my pain is in both hips equally, which would be strange in someone who has a tear, as tears in both hips is uncommon. however I do have a more range of motion in my left hip.

I've been left in agony with no painkillers and no answers and an MRI which I'm still waiting on to get the letter to book it. I do have a GP appointment so I can get some painkillers, but as cocodamol is not working nor codeine on its own, I don't know what other pain relief I could be prescribed

I'm having to use a walking stick at 19 and it's getting me really down. I still have at least a 2 month wait till my next consultation which may or may not let me have some answers and I'm feeling rubbish that I have to cope with this for however long.

I just need some advice. I personally think it's dysplasia again, but my X-ray looked normal apart from my right hip being higher up than my left.

Thanks in advance.

Its probably worth asking if a rheumatology consultation would be useful. Even though you feel the pain in your hips, it is possible that its coming from your lower back or sacroiliac joints, and that would be a rheumatology assessment required.

I would suggest it may be coming from the spine or pelvis. I have found that over the years doctors aren't very good at diagnosing these conditions and helping yourself is often the best way. Paracetamol may be an every day painkiller but that doesn't mean it isn't an extremely good one. It also helps the body take up opiates such as codeine better. Be careful with anti inflammatories they do terrible harm long term.

Try swimming it can be really helpful. If money permits see an osteopath they are very good with that sort of pain. Alsoit may be worth checking whether it is caused by having a difference in leg length. Hip problems can mean that there is a slight difference in legs which will be fixed by having an insert in your shoe normally. This would be assessed by a podiatrist.
