EMG tests re Neurophysiology problem.

I am due to have an EMG test to my arms. This is a study of muscles and nerves due to my having severe tingling, and sometimes burning, to my fingers. However, this happens mostly at night when lying down in bed. As it does not bother me much of the time when up in the daytime I wondered if anyone has had the test and knows whether it is successful even if taken when not having the symptoms?

Had this done about six weeks ago, evidence was inconclusive, they did my hands and feet. It's non intrusive and quite simple really. Yes have been tested for anemia for the tingling sensation which comes and goes -

Thanks tor your answer 'No-one'. My problem is almost certain to do with one aspect of spodyiitis, where a nerve from degenerative vertebra I've had for many years is more recently ,I believe, being affected by the condition. Possibly due, at times, by contact with harder tissue. But I'm interested to know if the EMG test is successful when carried out whilst i have no symptoms, as explained in my original question.

Hi Sargrith,

I too have spondylosis, C5 and 6 with nueropathic pain in just one arm. I have a a range of responses; tingling, numbness and very sharp constant pain, some days hardly anything, others dreadful and unable to do anything even prepare food.

I had the nerve and muscle tests on a day when I had virtually nothing - The Consultant said that this didn't matter. The results ruled out a range of things as much as confirming that it was it from the degenerated discs. I must be very nesh - I found it hurt a bit - it is needles after all!

hope it goes well - and ask a lot of questions, my consultant was very helpful.

Regards Sheila

Many thanks Sheila. Your reply very helpful. My late wife had the same, or very similar, test 36 years ago. As a result she had the carpel tunnel operation which did no good and some years latter it was decided she had a trapped nerve caused by the vertebrae and lived for 10 years with a very uncomfortable rigid neck collar. Strangely, it was a car accident that eventually released the nerve.

I had them done about 2 years ago no symptoms on the day but the tests showed I have ulnar nerve entrapment to a moderate degree in both elbows.
