Can anyone tell me, how many hours should lap... - Pain Concern
Can anyone tell me, how many hours should lapse between medication doses.
Rhapsody, it depends on the medication what are you taking? With mine - I have one twice a day (morning and night) and another two tabs four times a day. Are these painkillers?
75mg Pregab am and 75mg pm.
Also
Co-codamol 15mg/500mg up to 4 doses per day. All on prescription.
Which did you need advice on? If it's the 4 doses, it would be approx 4 to 5 hours between i.e. 8am, 12noon, 4pm, 9pm'ish etc...
Thankyou for your help
I take the Pregab 9am and 9pm, I wondered if I could take my first and last co-codamol
at those times also?
Many thanks
Rhapsody.
I don't see why not - the chemicals for co-codamol is paracetamol and codeine - they shouldn't have an effect on the pregab. I'm not a chemist but they are totally different drugs. Your GP would have advised you NOT to take them together if they reacted together. See tomorrow (Sunday) if you can speak to a pharmacist, nowadays Boots are open 7 days a week, just to check. Pharmacists know more about these drugs than our GPs lol
Thankyou for your kindness and patience.
I am sure you are right, will have a word with a pharmacist tomorrow.
Best wishes to you,
Rhapsody x
i agree with "no-one" the 2 drugs are not related- they are both pain killers but differnt types hat work in very differnt ways in your body, it sounds like he wants you to take the pregab on a regular basis regardless of what your pain feels like and that makes sense as pregab works best when it has constant level in you system..
it sounds like he has also given you the Co-codamol UP TO 4 times a day MAXIMUM (but should not really be less than 4 hours between each dose of co codamol) as an extra layer of painkiller if you need it- i would double check with the doctor when you can but today sometime ask a pharmacist- i would say that you only need take the Co-codamol IF you still feel in pain, it is what is some times referred to as breakthrough pain relief- so if the pregab was dealing with all your pain and you felt comfy you might not need the other medication at all, or perhaps only one or 2 of the possible 4 doses if the pain started to "break through" again- does that make sense
Hi Rhapsody you say you are taking pregabalin 75mg morning and night and co-codamol , well from my own experience as your doctor probably explained to you when he gave you your prescription you would only need to take the co-codamol to back up the pregabalin if the pain was breaking through. As your pregabalin is quite a low dose why don't you ask your doctor to up the pregabalin to 100 mg and see how you get on with that and then only take the co-codamol if you are desperate in the middle of the day. Take your pm pregabalin an hour before you go to bed and you should have a decent nights sleep. hope you get sorted Rhapsody see your doctor. Tricia
If a prescription- it should say eg 2xday is 12hrly.4xday is 6hrly,3xday is 8hrly-not breakfast lunch and tea as there are 24hrs in a day.4xday is 6hrly.Probably doesnt matter if you are an hour out BUT it does matter if you take them TOO CLOSE together. A friend of mine, took tabs for blood pressure at night time 11pm as going on holiday next day.Had an early flight, so breakfast was at 3am, so took tabs that were meant to be 2xday ie 12hrly only 4hrs apart and wondered why they passed out on the aeroplane, as of course the tabs for reducing the blood pressure overworked, as too close together. Some common sense needed- I think! Tabs bought in a chemist will have instructions also.
For pain I take oxynorm 5mg 4 times daily & tramadol 50mg 3 times daily controls the pain ..but am on a lot of other meds for heart / blood pressure & permantley on antibiotics because of my kidneys
