Pinching pain...

Hi all,

ive been having a niggling pain over the last two weeks....i did think it was to do with my period cycle at first..i normally get a bit of pain esp. on my right side where the cyst was but it will subside and go away once my period is over..so although im aware of it i also know it goes away...but this time it hasn't. it feels like a really horrible pinching pain but between my lower tummy and my thigh on the right side. almost like a nerve is trapped..but not sure how that could have happened. i have a followup scan in a couple of weeks so v.tempted to just wait it out. but i wondered if anyone has ever had the same feeling? its really uncomfortable and it doesn't matter what i do it doesn't seem to want to go away!

Dear Siobhan,

Persistent pain like that is very worrying. Didn't your onc say before that it was linked to the op on your right side? I think I'd explain to the radiology team that you've had this pain and ask them if there's anything they can identify that might cause this.

At the end of the day if you're really worried and uncomfortable you could see your GP but they might well suggest you wait to see how the scan goes. It's fortunate the appointment is so near. The only other thing is to ask whether there are likely to be any cancellations to bring it forward.

I sympathise with your worries. I think all of us who have had a diagnosis of Ovarian Cancer at whatever stage will always worry about the slightest pain or symptom.

I hope you get this cleared up soon.

love, Annie

Dear Siobhan

I can only echo what Annie has said. And be persistent as regards getting answers.

Wishing you well

Hi Siobhan,

I am sorry that you are in so much pain, it is very difficult to know what to do, but there is no harm in ringing your GP ....do you think it could be pendicitis ? It might well be something that is unrelated to your medical condition... I know how easy it is to think it is ... we are allowed to have other things wrong though...when I had a hernia which showed up as a lump in my tummy, I was convinced the cancer was back and although it was caused by the operation (an incisional hernia) it wasn't really anything to do with the cancer, when Lorraine (ScardyCat) had a pain in her upper abdomen it was a gallstone (not the cancer) it is all too easy to blame everything on the cancer though.

You will need to act quickly as with the Easter weekend it is a lot harder to see or speak to a doctor. If you want to ring the Ovacome helpline and speak to Ruth Payne tel 0845 371 0554

Sending you my love and best wishes x G x

Hi Siobhan,

I realise after writing this that you have had pains in your right side before, and it wasn't your appendix, I just wanted to say that when I had a recurrence I had a pain in my left side in the back with a nerve pain going down my leg, the tumour was resting on a nerve but I wouldn't describe it as a pinching pain (more like sciatica) the point I wanted to make though is.... I had this pain for well over a year before I had a scan which then showed I had a recurrence, I am now in remission for a second time and have been in remission for fifteen months so it didn't make any difference to the time delay in the outcome.. Love x G x

Hi ladies,

Thanks for getting in touch - I'm sorry it has taken so long to reply. I'm actually in Belgium at the moment visiting my boyfriends sister. I almost decided not to go but I was worried about disappointing people and being a drama queen so I changed my mind last minute. Can't say I feel much better but trying to just put it to the back of my mind and get the weekend over with! (not how I wanted it to be!) ...I think I will be taking a trip to the out of hours on Monday when I get back and see what they say.

I'm a bit concerned now it's been going on for so long - I did wonder at first Gwyn if it was my appendix but kind of ruled it out now as i suppose it's been too long. Fingers crossed it is something unrelated like you say... Thanks again for replying and will keep u posted hopefully with something good. Have a lovely Easter everyone Xxx
