Anyone else have trouble with cramp? I have been getting excruciating cramp in my feet, calves and down the sides of my shins.

Hi margaret

I too take cramps in my feet as you describe, mentioned it to the oncologist at my last visit, and they checked my bloods for a lack of a certain mineral, might be worth asking about that. My result came back clear but i am taking a mineral supplement anyway. It is a horrible and painful thing and you never know when its going to strike.

Thanks for that Harley. I was given magnesium with my last lot of chemo. It was stopped after I finished the chemo. I take calcium because I dislike milk &milk products as well as glucosamine for my joints but no one has mentioned mineral deficiency for cramp. I know it can be dehydration or lactic acid in the muscles but it is so much worse now. I have always drunk a lot, about 2 litres a day so it isn't that. I will ask them in hospital on Sunday when I go in for my op on Monday.

Hello Margaret

Just wanted to say GOOD LUCK for your op. Do you go into hospital this coming Sunday (4th)? Let me know because I want to say a few prayers for you. I bet you'll be glad to get on with it now. I am sure you will get excellent care. They should give out medals for this sort of thing.

Love Sarah

Thank you Sarah. Yes I go in on Sunday 4th and get the op on Mon 5th. I have a black felt tip disc on the left side of the abdomen to mark the site for the colostomy. Here's to the future, hopefully symptom free for a good long time.

Hi margaretJ. So soon after your op, and you were giving me advise. Said you were brave. I also had loads of cramps, but after making sure of extra good diet seems to have settled..was real bad at one stage had short spell in bed am ,went quick, going to take a build up for extra help. Wish you well.

Hi Osborne! I still get the cramp in my feet and legs despite a diet so heslthy it is unbelievable and a minimum of 2 litres of water a day. Still a hot water bottle helps! As I said I'm not brave just b****y minded! LOL! The original control freak! Now I am trying to wrestle the d****d stoma into not waking me up needing to be changed every couple of hours through the night. Worse than a b****y baby! Luckily it does not function every night, just 4 or 5 out of 7! What a palaver! Unlike a baby earplugs or kicking daddy out to see to it doesn't work and getting back to sleep is a problem as you can see. Thank goodness for my kindle (much, lighter than a book) and the Ipad with BBC Iplayer to lull me to sleep!

Good luck to you! You seem to be in a bad way at present!
