Hi Nandi,

No harm in asking, as I am sure there are more people on here that has been (or still is) on taxol, things are a bit slow lately the sad loss of some friends has knocked us all, a very bad start to the new year, some are taking a bit of a break to recover.

But hopefully things are picking up with Shazican getting married tomorrow very much longed for good news (see the poem I posted yesterday) so on to happier things :-) I hope you get more feedback soon love x G x

Hi! nandi, its una here. I had 18 weekly taxols which finished in early october. This was my 3rd. line chemo.I actually got better results from the weekly taxol than with the combined carboplatin and taxol on a 3weekly regime that i had been on for 2nd. line chemo. After my 2nd line combined chemo , i got only 3mths. and it had returned. My tumour marker jumped from 14 to 89 in those 3 mths. and i had to start the weekly taxol. When i finished my treatment , the ca125 was down to 26 and now 4mths. later it has only went up to 36.I know its still a rise of ten, but compared to the jump in my ca125 after 2nd. round , I am pleased that it hasnt went up to a higher level. The last 2 times i knew the tumours were growing as i had pain both times over liver, but this time so far i have had no pain and will be delighted if i get a respite from treatment for a couple of more months. Hope this encouages you a little. i have to confess my neuropathy is feet is a lot worse though but i suppose its the lesser of two evils. hugs. una x

poleglass, many thanks for your encouraging reply. I have always until now responded to Carbo, so I am nervous about a new regime. I did have Taxol with Carbo for 1st line treatment.

I hope you get a good break before needing more treatment. Thanks again x

Dear Nandi,

I am also on weekly taxol. In general terms it is less onerous than carboplatin /taxol for me but everyone has different experiences. I have a feeling of toxicity on day 2/3 and generally below par .

I do not have nausea , vomiting or mouth ulcers. Not too much in the way of neuropathy although I am starting to get some nail discolouration . The daycare nurse has recommended that I use almond oil on the nails.

It is working well for me and my tumour markers are coming down. The plan is that I do 18 or possibly 24 weeks . I am using a cold cap which is working although hair growth is slowed .

I hope this helps.

Best wishes

Veronica

rmvf,

Thank you I am so glad for you that it is working and it is encouraging for me. Nasty as the side effects of chemo can be once you know its working seems to make it worth well. My oncology unit here does not do cold cap so it will be back to bald. However my hair looks pretty awful after 8 gem/carbo treatments, so no great loss.

Thanks again and i wish you continued success.
