can a 70 yr. old have ovarian cancer, have had hysteroscopy and d and c, nothing found.
Dear Mojopickle - first of all I love your screen name!
The answer is yes to the question can a 70 year old have Ovarian Cancer. I'd imagine though that if that 70 year old had been screened for Ovarian Cancer through a CA125 test, a CT scan, and a histology examination of the organs removed from a hysterectomy and nothing has been found that it's pretty conclusive the 70 year old doesn't have Ovarian Cancer.
I'm hoping that is the case here. xxx love Annie
Hi! hope you're not needing this but ......If you have a look on the Ovacome website, ovacome.org.uk, you will se on the left 'BEAT Ovarian cancer with Ovacome. Click on that and scroll down to the symptom tracker. If the 70 year old wanted to collect more info to present to the GP or Gynae dept at the hospital, it gives a grid to record symptoms etc and should be medically recognised. All the best
Love Wendy xx
PS ....is the 70 year old you?
Yes! but then eighty or ninety or even older can have ovarian cancer, I am not sure whether the tests that have been done would necessarily pick up on ovarian cancer, if this was the case they would find it easier in people that have been diagnosed with it..usually it is picked up with a ca125 blood test (or at least that there is something wrong) and a ct scan.you could give the helpline a ring as they would be able to ask you the relevant questions to put your mind at rest speak to Ruth Payne (Ovacome nurse) tel 0845 371 0554

Hi there I am the support nurse at Ovacome and do please give me a ring so we can discuss this further- number above From the information you give a hysteroscopy would only look inside the womb and not the ovaries and the d and c similarly would only take a biopsy from the lining of the womb. If you had a laparosocopy that would give a clearer picture but would need to know more details
Best Wishes

Hi Ruth,
Thank you so much for explaining the difference between a hysteroscopy and laparoscopy I had a laparosocopy followed by a blood test to diagnose my OC , I couldn't remember the name of the laparosocapy but knew that a hysteroscopy wasn't what I had...but really didn't know what the difference was, true what they say we learn something new every day cheers love x G x
