Onc highly recommend hrt. Stage 2 low grade. What do u think
Hi there
Sorry that you are going through this.
I had a borderline ( which I think is low grade) tumour diagnosed 3 years ago now . I was not staged as all concerned were expectation that it was a cyst. My consultant was adamant that at 48 I would need HRT for my bones and heart , as well as symptom relief and that this would be safe for up to 10 years for me. I honestly think that I couldn't have done without it as I had horiffic symptoms in hospital and now feel great. An added advantage is that my hair and skin have improved no end. I had a haemoglobin level of 6 before I was diagnosed through !
It is very much a decision based on your individual risks , the pathology of your OVCA , your age and probably your consultant 's opinion.
I hope that you are doing well and have recovered from the surgery etc.

Hi! Well done for having come through this so well. I was given HRT implants for 2 years after my op, which turned out to be borderline. I felt better than before or after when I was on the HRT. I was advised to let it fade out after two years, cos of the increased risk of breast cancer, although mine wasn't genetically linked. I was about 55 then, so perhaps it was my age. I often wonder if I gave up on HRT too early. I felt really well when I was on it
All the best

I wonder is there a way you can find out if your particular type of cancer is "hormonally" driven before you decide on HRT? Ultimately the choice is yours but it's important to consider if there are any risks before starting. Although I was not stage 2/low grade but stage 3C..... my Onc hasn't mentioned HRT to me.
All the best.
My GP had a fit when I mentioned HRT, she said she wouldn't prescribe it as the majority of OC's are hormone led, and that at the time of the biopsy sometimes they test it to see, but it has to be request of the surgeon.
My surgeon had said yes to HRT, but now GP has said no and so has oncologist, who said the risk of breast cancer increases when you've had OC.
If your oncologist has suggested HRT they must be quite confident that it won't affect you.

Wow, from what Lily-Anne has suggested, the serious consequences of 'to HRT or not HRT', and the diametrically opposed opinions, I think I'd be asking for a second opinion and an explanation as to that recommendation.
x Hope you feel at the end of the day you get the right answer. xx love Annie
There is a lot if different opinion on this - my onc said that HRT was currently considered fine for many ladies with OC but that research was only now really clarifying things. That not all OC was hormonally triggered but mine (endometroid) was one they believe is, so she would not recommend HRT for me...
Very confusing.
