I can't believe that I escaped the flu my daughter had at Christmas, and all the other bugs that were around at the time, and now, after seeing nobody since coming home from the hospital for chemo no 5 on Friday, that I have a head cold developing. It seems to have come on so quickly..... This morning I was feeling bored and fed up with not going anywhere, and now I am sneezing with a drippy nose. Here's hoping I can keep it contained and stop anything else developing! I'm glad to say that after treatment x6 it looks like I may get a break from chemo for a little while if things still keep reducing on the scan. I've got everything crossed for good news, but I could do without the cold!
It's really good to hear from you - and particularly that it seems the chemotherapy is working for you.
I'm really sorry to hear about the cold. I've had one for about a month - can't shift it - and it's miserable. Tuck up by the fire with a hot lemon and honey, inhale steam and Olbas Oil, have a whisky and hot water .... anything to cheer yourself up .... cold remedies don't really work - it's just a matter of time and rest.
I've been wondering how things are with you, Viv! Poor thing, getting a horrible drippy nose. My friend had one like that but it only lasted a couple of days. I hope yours clears up similarly quickly. Well done for getting through the 5 chemo sessions, nearly through to that break from it. Keeping my fingers crossed too for a gods result on the scan.
No thanks, I've already had a cold..... After being kept in for a few days after chemo due to me throwing up, I finally got home and John and Elizabeth both started colds that evening! I managed to avoid that for a week and a half, then went down with on after having to collect some prescriptions from the doctor's dispensary. Take about cheesed off!
Will you make it to the support group at the end of the month? I'm seeing the onc in just over a week for my 1st checkup....seems hard to believe its gone so quick.
Keep warm and dose yourself with your favourite tipple! My Dad swears by a recipe of red wine, cinnamon, honey, lemon, mixed and heated. The original was with home brewed Elderberry Wine, it was a sure fire knock you out! As a student I once brewed it for one of my house mates, she said it gave her the best night sleep she could remember in ages!
Love
Chris
Sorry about your cold - but I'm so pleased to read that your treatment seems to be effective.
Shame you have caught a cold but I'm glad to hear that the chemo is doing its stuff.
I go for hot chocolate laced with whisky, brandy or rum with a square of chilli chocolate (I think its a Green & Black chocolate bar but not sure) it helps to clear the nasal passages.
Hope you get rid of it soon.
Love Mary xx
Poor Viv how miserable! I think Mary has the answer ;-). How nice to face a break in chemo and from all the side effects though, its great news that the treatment is doing its stuff.
Good to hear from you, been wondering how things were going with you, glad to hear the old chemo is successful for you.
Cold - dont speak to me about them, I have had one cold after another for weeks and am now on antibiotice for a chest infection. Dueto see oncologist on Monday to kick off the third round so hoping to feel better by then.
Lots of hot lemon and honey - with a shot of whisky at bedtime - highly recommended.
Love and hugs
Joanna
Hi Viv,
Sorry you have a cold but this is one gift you can keep to yourself, hope you get well soon. Love x G x
Trying to avoid all colds thanks but glad to hear that you may get a break from chemo - hope next results are good and that the New year is a great one for you xxxx
Whenever I feel like I'm coming down with something, the first thing I do is rub Vicks on the soles of my feet and up my legs, just under my knees. I then put on a thick pair of woolly socks. When I wake up in the morning, I feel a lot better and (sorry to be gross) cough up a lot of phlegm. A reflexologist told me about this trick. Something to do with the pressure points of the foot. I hope you feel better soon.
So glad to read your blog, I have followed your journey since I started mine last Xmas x I have a beast within that will not sleep and have just had my second round so nearly a year of chemo.. Started Xmas day last year and ended Xmas eve this year (2011/12) ... My counts are static so oncologist stopped after 4 as becoming platinum sensitive! How long have you been doing this repeated chemo? Keep up the good work x
