Or would an oncologist decide to restart chemo on a patient's description of symptoms alone and the feel of their stomach.

Do people normally have a scan before restarting on chemo?
Hi
I had a scan before starting back on chemo. My CA125 had gradually been going up and when the results of the scan showed the cancer up then the decision was made to restart chemo. I would be surprised if the decision was made to restart cancer without a scan as they would need to know they are taking the the most effective decision, however I can only speak for myself and don't know what other people's experiences are.
Best wishes
Anne
My oncologist says he needs an examination, a scan and blood tests to diagnose cancer. However; it becomes more and more obvious that Consultants have their own ways of doing things, so probably the only person who can answer your question is your oncologist!
Very best wishes,

I have had scans before after during and all stages between. My oncologist tells me the only way they can tell if rising CA125 is conclusive without the scan. I was shown the scan last time I saw the oncologist and could see the new tumour clearly. Sequential scans enable them to see if the tumour is growing and if it is affecting the other organs.
Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm seeing my oncologist tomorrow but like everyone on here I'm a wee bit impatient!!
