Rising CA after remission

After 18 courses chemo and surgery my CA was down from nearly 3000 to 11 - great result. But within 8 weeks was up to 19. Would you share your experiences of rising CA after remission with me please. I don't know whether to worry about it or not!

Hi Meryl! Mine was 545 before my operation but down to 28 within a week after the op. I didn't have chemo, and my CA125 has been anywhere from 28 to 12 since I had ovarian cancer 7 years ago. I was told by my oncologist that anywhere under 30 is within the normal range and it can fluctuate. However, that's just my experience. If you're in any doubt, can you contact the specialist gynae/oncology nurse at your hospital? Mine is great and never minds me asking for reassurance when I have a bit of a wobble! Or try the Ovacome number on 0845 371 0554. It's staffed by nurses during the working week, so tomorrow should be ok, before the Bank Holiday. All the best x

Hi Meryl.

Two years ago my mum was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer, and after having a hysterectomy her CA count went down. After her first round of 6 cycles of chemo, her CA went up again, but we didn't worry about it. The next month, we checked again and the cancer had come back and she was no longer in remission. She went in for another round of chemo, and after the 3 month check her CA is now around 150. We are trying to combat it with herbal medicine instead of chemo right now as it isn't so high, and the doctor is saying not to worry.

Don't stress yourself out over it, as long as you talk to your dodctor and they think it's fine, you'll be fine. 19 is still a great CA marker and I don't think you have much to worry about.

After 6 lots of chemo mine went down from 11,000 to 6. It is now rising again -30 but I am just as scared! My CT scan showed no change! I am punching air! And off to Portugal for Christmas!
