About scans??
Thats a good question Isadora and one I will be interested to see the answers when someone posts.. When I asked my Onc about Pet Versus CT he said Pet sees "Molecular activity called hotspots( which are not always cancer) and CT can only see something if a tumour measures 1 CM. Id like to know what is it about naming all these scans after domestic animals though! Pet, cat, I await the dog scan coming out next!
hi isadora - i don't know the reason why but i've got something extra to add. i had ovarian cancer and, thankfully, it was removed totally so i didn't have any chemo. however, i had to have scans to check to see if it had returned at all. for the first 7 or 8 years i had ct scans, however for the final 2 or 3 years before i was finally discharged i had ultrasound scans. i've never found out why the sudden change in method!
Hi I am one of the support line nurses at Ovacome. You might find it useful to go to the cancer research website and put scans in the search box and then there are a few sections given over to explaining about the two different types of scans. If you want to discuss this further please do feel free to give the support line a call on 08453710554
Best Wishes
Ruth
I have had both a CT scan and an MRI. I had the MRI after the CT scan because I was told its more sensitive
