Is it normal to feel very stiff and achy after ... - My Ovacome
Is it normal to feel very stiff and achy after a course of Chemotherapy?
Hi Amanda, I dont know if its normal, but my joints ache, knees, hips, shoulders etc.Could be just my age,but I thought in some old posts other ladies have had the same. Love Sue x
Hi Amanda & Sue, I know lots of women who have complained about this after chemo, including myself. I am pleased to say that in my case, it doesn't last forever or at least it gets better/reduces painfulness. I think it may be the chemo or it might be related to the surgical menopause that most of us get as a result of surgery for OC. I also know women who have had Breast Cancer, no surgical menopause, but are taking drugs which supress their oestrogen and complain of similar symptoms. I found that a regular programme of walking helped to reduce symptoms.
Hi Amanda
I felt very stiff and achy after chemo especially when getting up from sitting down. Felt like an elderly woman, but it has got better over the months. I also found that walking helped.

Hi ladies
Same here. Thought it was just me getting older and creeky. I've found walking helps but I'm a "fair weather" so limited opportunity. Hope we all start improving soon. Meryl XXXX
Hi Amanda,
Yep! I think it is the norm... I've been through it twice now same both times.... I think we get a " New Normal ".... I do think walking probably helps..not sure as I am always tired... Love xxGwyneth xx
Hi Amanda
Oh yes! The first 6 months after chemo were difficult for me. My hands especially were awful - very stiff fingers, really limited what I could do. As other ladies have said, I don't know how much was chemo and hopw much was surgical menopause...but it started improving after 6 months and I feel pretty much back to normal now, another year on.
All the best to you,

Hi there Amanda ,
I am half way through my six lots of chemo and yes the aches are normal , mine last about a week but I do try and walk through them and exercise is good if you feel like it and don't over do it. A nice walk then rest ....Drink plenty of water ..
I fill a two litre bottle up with water each day and plough through it ..I am sure that helps too .Take care xxx

Yes I'm midway through 2nd course of chemo and am very achey and stiff. Feels like I can't flex enough to get down the stairs some mornings, my ankles are the worst. Can't even put it down to age or menopause as I am 34 and on HRT!
Thank you to all of you for your comments, much appreciated.
Best wishes to you all.
