Hi lovely ladies hope you're enjoying the sun ☀️. I'm having hernia surgery soon and just wondered If anyone has any experience of this. Recovery time etc. I have 3 hernias along my debulking scar so not really sure how they will repair this. Thank you

Kate xx

Hi Kate, I’ve had two hernia surgeries (cock-up with the first one!) along my hysterectomy scar to insert mesh. Some surgeries can be same-day, mine included an overnight stay. You shouldn’t carry anything heavy for about six weeks and an abdominal binder (you can order off Amazon) is a godsend! I can recommend the NHS hernia surgery advice sheet online for what to expect/do afterwards. Hope that helps. Deb x

May I ask if yours was a vertical or horizontal incision? I was booked in for similar until they realised I had cancer which of course is taking priority! I’m hoping once this is done I can have a break then get the incisional hernia sorted cos it is uncomfortable. One step at a time..

Hi Florrie, vertical along my hysterectomy scar. Are you not booked in for a hysterectomy too, after your cancer diagnosis? Good luck with all your treatments. Deb x

No I had full hysterectomy and endometriosis removal 3 years ago. Some of the endo seems to have hung around and is what is causing my current issue. It’s the same cells as ovarian cancer hence why I’m on here.

Thank you

Hi Kate, I’ve got 3 hernias along my incision line too. In fact I’ve just been in and out of hospital the last week with a painful partial bowel blockage luckily one of the surgeons before prepping me for an op tried manipulating hernia encarcerated bowel from outside and pushing it back in. I’m back home on a low residue diet but doing ok. I am in talks with a hernia surgeon ( prior to this) about hernia repair which he says he can do but not until I’ve lost sufficient weight as it will just pop again. He said he will use a very large mesh covering all three hernias. So I’m back on diet. I’ve lost three stone so far 👍. He said it will be a big op with time in hospital after then to wear a binder for a few months. He did say some people who lose enough weight can get away not having surgery so I’ve got my fingers crossed 😂. By the way they obviously prefer to do it as planned operation and we’re unhappy to do it as an emergency unless they really need to.

Wishing you well

Thank you for that, when i saw the surgeon back in October i only had one hernia now 3. So wasn't really sure what to expect. Well done on the fabulous weight loss hope you get your op soon or in fact that you don't need it. I have been trying to lose weight before the op but not been very successful. x

I did the fast 800 diet for 3 months, shouldn’t do it for longer but possibly check with gp first. I have lots of stones to lose so 🤞Xx
