That’s great Cazy! Congratulations on getting through it 🏆

I had my op the day before you. All went well and I’m home now too, awaiting final pathology results. Frozen section was borderline.

I was scared of having sudden menopause symptoms but have felt ok so far, apart from brain fog which could be due to the anaesthesia and painkillers anyway. Did they give you blood thinner injections to do at home? I was nervous about doing that but it’s been easy

It’s brilliant enjoying meals without heartburn and being able to sleep the whole night without getting up a dozen times to wee

Fingers crossed for good results and good recovery for you ❤️

I remember that feeling! Glad to hear you are out, take it slowly and be very kind to yourself as you recover. I found waiting for results hard but try not to dwell on it and book some nice things in when you are well enough (I went on a live streamed gondola ride through Venice from the comfort of my sofa 😆)

That’s great Cazy1010. Be kind to yourself, walk around, even if just for 5 minutes every hour, have an afternoon nap if you feel like it, book a treat for a few weeks time (theatre, restaurant etc). Have a lovely long shower and wash your hair. Remember not to do too much like lifting anything heavy. I got used to the blood thinning injections and did mine last thing at night. I found having to wear the compression socks worse. After my operation was the only time I’ve ever had more than 3 weeks off work. I read a lot the first week or so then walked a lot. My dog loved it as she got 3 or 4 walks a day.

It’s lovely to be home isn’t it! Well done, you’ve managed it…..all is going to get better from now on.

I’m sure you’ve been given post op instructions. Mine were not to lift anything heavier than a part filled kettle for a few weeks. Of course it depends what sort of you’ve had (I had a cut from near my navel down to my pubic area). I’m sure you’ve been given instructions. It’s very important to follow these. You can badly affect the internal healing process if you over strain anything in the abdominal area. There has probably been a lot of internal cutting. I was also told I couldn’t drive a car for 6 weeks. I was told to have an afternoon nap, which I definitely needed, and to try to walk a little each day (I started off after about three or four days, but only for about 200 yards, trying to increase a little each day). I was told I could swim to help recovery after my scar was healed, I think I started that after about 4 weeks. You recover so slowly that you almost don’t notice……but you do recover a little bit each day.

If bowels are a problem, which they are with a lot of us, use the search feature on here to get some suggestions. I ate a few dried figs and lots of fruit and veg. It helped but after a few days there was a day when I thought I was going to burst…it was a bit painful too, but I used deep breathing (and gripping onto the bathroom radiator!) to get through it. You just have to be very gentle with yourself.

I think there is a post op fact sheet on the Ovacome website. Their fact sheets are very useful. Do explore them and have a read…….and take it easy. It’s very early days. Your body has gone through a lot, you’ll need to coax it back to a new normal very gently.

Love

Wendy xx

thank you Wendy , I’ve had all my instructions and following them to the letter !!! I’m just pottering when I feel like it , as you say trying to get everything working again but have been given stuff to help only thing is I’m not really into eating that much at the moment just small amounts at a time . You do forget how much your body has been through in the past few days x

My CNS told me, about a week post-op, when I rang her for some reassurance (we all need that sometimes) that I should be guided by my body, eat and drink what I fancy, when I fancy it. I think that’s sound advice. Hope you’re feeling a bit better today xx

Hi caz, nice to hear your home.Be kind to yourself , your body has been through alot. Depending on your surgery laparotomy or laparoscopy.

I had a laparotomy, first couple of days once I got home were rough but I recovered so well. The relief of not having to visit the loo constantly through the night and instant relief from all those OC symptoms! I 4 weeks after my op I felt like a new woman.

I'm.on preventative chemo now and being on this chat has helped me so much. Every step makes you more positive!

Good luck with your results

It does pass...I stayed in bed first 2 days when I got home then slowly started moving around. Had bowel cramps so lived off peppermint tea which helped with digestion Take care x

well done. Now try to relax, rest but get up and walk about each day. I.m sure the brain fog is due to the anaesthetic! Wishing you a good recovery Di x
