We've had a query through the supportline that we would really value your expertise on please? Someone who finished chemotherapy in April and is now taking niraparib but no other treatment, would like to go back to colouring her hair blonde but she's concerned about the risk to her hair.
If any of you have experiences of colouring your hair during niraparib treatment that you would be happy to share, please do leave a comment below and I'll let her know.
Many thanks as always for your help.
Best wishes
Anna

I was on Niraparib alone for maintenance for a few months after Carbo/Caelyx. I finished Carbo/Caelyx December 2021 and started Niraparib February 2022. I was only out of chemo 3 months and taking Niraparib when I took a chance and had my hair bleached. I think 6 months out of chemo is safest and I would definitely advise a skin patch test first.
I am on Niraparib, my hairdresser was not keen on doing anything that involved full colour but I have been having foil highlights which dont involve the chemical going on my skin and it has been fine
I was told wait 6 months after chemo , then I’ve been on Olaparib and had foil applied highlights at intervals since . All fine . I appreciate not Niraparib but ………
Hi. I am on Olaparib and have taken advice from my oncologist about colouring my hair. She was happy to advise that I can start dyeing my hair after 6 months of finishing my main treatment. My hairdresser has found an organic plant based hair colouring which avoids all the chemicals. It does the job but does not last as long as the normal hair dye's. Hope that helps.
hi, yes I have. Full head bleach with no problems. Tried foils first time and strand/ allergy patch tests . Then back to my usual full head colour. No problems I am not a hairdresser however. I tried some of the more gentle stuff first, cant recall the name but some cancer hair care expert company which just didn’t work at all. Hope this helps.
I was on Niraparib for three and a half years. During that time I used many temporary hair colours - turquoise, pink, purple and blue - with no ill effects on scalp or hair. As the other poster has said, a patch test is vital, as we all react differently to the medication, never mind the chemicals in the colourant.
I was on Niraparib too and when my hair was long enough I got highlights. I had no issues at all. Unfortunately I am starting chemo again this week so my lovely locks will be gone again!.
when I was on Niraparib I did colour my hair ! (Also blonde ) but the hair dresser recommended highlights rather than a full head colour , just to be on the safe side . I’ve stuck with that ever since ! Currently have no hair and I’m missing my own hair !
Thank you all very much for taking the time to share your experiences with hair colour when taking niraparib. This is so helpful and I will let the enquirer know your comments.
