I had a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy 3 days ago. I am 74 and had my menopause 25 years ago.
I had a 5cm left ovarian cyst which has recently developed nodules. CA 125 cancer marker tests were normal. CEA levels were raised. I had a CT colonoscopy for bowel cancer. negative.
I wondered if anyone could tell me what side effects I may experience. I am a bit scared because I have read horror stories of cognitive decline, menopausal symptoms and other side effects. Even Parkinsons disease.

dear Jennifer Lee, wherever you have been mugging up on horror stories, please put that book back on the shelf! I am 76 and last year, having been diagnosed with stage 4 HGSOC, had chemo and a 10 hour op which included your procedure plus hysterectomy, appendix, half stomach out, one lymph node out. I assure you I have no cognitive decline, no Parkinson’s and no menopausal symptoms. I went to Poland for holiday last week. Iam still working and socialising. Only side effect I have is poor balance from maintenance drug, Olaparib, and that is neuropathy probably accentuated by my congenital Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Which I doubt you have. Despite balance issues, I walk for an hour every day. If you are still worried , please ring Ovacome. Please enjoy life and don’t let fear about things you do not have play on your mind. Emma x
Hi, I had a hysterectomy plus what you had done 7 years ago, with HGSOC. I have had two recurrences one in 2020 & a further one this year in March, both of which I have had chemo for that has worked fortunately. I certainly have not suffered any of the things that you have read & I will be 78 in January.
Try to relax a bit more and enjoy each day if you can.
It sounds like you are in a very good place. Your tests were negative for cancer. Any cognitive decline would be natural since your menopause was 25 years ago.
