Bone Pain: I have just had my 1st Chemo sesduon... - My Ovacome
Bone Pain
Don’t put up with pain Beoony, ask your team or gp for some heavy duty co codamol to get you through the next few days. x
Speak with your team, they may lessen the dose next time. You should not have to put up with that sort of pain.
Hi I took Benadryl or loratadine tablets after researching and found it helped the pain, its awful isnt it? i checked with my oncologist who had not heard of this but he said it won’t do any harm.you need be taking it without any pauses.Hope it helps x
i was prescribed codeine gives constipation but kept my pain under control only had to take it day after chemo for 4 days then i could cope x
hi … I feel your pain it is horrific! I had the same and spoke to my oncologist and he reduced one of the treatments by 20% for my next cycle. I still had pain but was no where near as bad! Good luck x
You poor girl, that's not right get help & advise straight away. They will be able to do something maybe dose needs tweaking they will sort you out. Hope you get sorted quickly love & hugs SheilaFxxx
when I had my first dose of carbo/taxil I ended up in hospital because the pain was unbearable. My oncologist prescribed garbapentin tablets to take a week before my next treatment plus painkillers and it did the trick. Hope you get sorted. Xx
Good girl obviously not the right dose for you. Hope your sorted very soon and you sound very positive which will help you a great deal. My love & prayers are with you. SheilaFxxx
Hi Beoony
I had the same thing after carbo/ taxol and worked out it was the injection you take I think its 3 days post op filgastrim. Initially it was given in a single dose but my oncologist converted it to one dose over five days prob solved. The injection is to stimulate bone marrow. Hope this helps

It’s the injection ( in the US it’s called Neulastin) they give you to keep your white blood cells from tanking that’s the cause of the bone pain, since it stimulates the bone marrow to make more . Take Claritin 2 days before and 5 days after. It will help immensely.
Do you tell your oncologist this, as this will be in an accumulative side effect. I believe it is the paclitaxel that causes this and they can reduce it slightly. I had this side-effect, I had pains in bones I didn’t even know I had! Particularly my legs.
Good luck with the rest of your treatment x
Hey
I suffered with this too.
Painkillers took the edge off but mostly felt like I'd been steamrollered and then driven over by a bus.
I bought myself an electric blanket.
It helped.
That combined with painkillers and a hot bath worked to make me comfortable.
💯agree its the injections for white cells, i dread them more than chemo! Ive cut mine to 4 from 7 and that works for me. Good luck x
ugh, so sorry, it SUCKS!!!!!
I took 800mg ibuprofen and 500 acetaminophen every 4 hours. Next chemo, start your pain regimen BEFORE the pain starts and don’t let up
I kept a written log of all drugs and a chemo journal.
I agree, no need to put up with pain. I wish I had been given a better heads up.
Were you given filgrastim to take via injection at home?
Hi, I had bone pain also after my first two chemos. Couldn’t hardly bend my knees. They lowered my dose and I felt much better. The lower dose was effective in fighting the cancer cells, so all was good. I have high grade epithelial and it was a fast spreader. Tell your dr. about your pain and they will work around things to make you more comfortable. Best wishes, Donna.
