My mum has been on zejula now for around 7 weeks. She is working and works out for around 12 hours a week. Her blood pressure and complete blood counts are fine and she has no other symptoms except some reflux which she’s had ever since her first chemo (January) her ca125 was normal at end of frontline back in June. When debulked the surgeon removed all of the cancer.
She is BRCA and hrd negative.
This last few weeks she has started taking up swimming and this week she has started with some lower back pain. She describes it as more of a soreness and possibly the muscle rather than a bone ache.
It doesn’t hurt when she is walking but rather when she is sitting down and getting up. It comes and goes.
I am just wondering if anyone else has had this? I am terrified but at the same time trying to remain rational. She has an appt with her oncologist a week on Monday for a catch up and bloods as they’ve now moved to monthly monitoring.
Thank you ☺️

Hello, Parp inhibitors can give slightly weird pain on occasion… I am on Olaparib and have sometimes had side pain but I strongly suspect that your mum may have overdone it a bit in the pool. See if a few days off helps. Tbh strange pains are a fact of life after treatment and most of them are just temporary. Best of luck to you and your Mum x
Thanks so much for replying Lyndy. I have ordered her some voltarol gel to see if it will ease her back and praying it will work. She's not going to swim for a week or so. I am wondering because her core is weakened from surgery if she is overcompensating with her back in the pool xx
Hi. I thought I would share my experience. After my surgery I was so determined to get moving. I did the usual walking every day and then returned to my yoga and strength training. I developed serious back pain to the point where every movement hurt. My chiro said because my core is weak following surgery I was putting far too much pressure on my lower back. Sounds like your mum has been doing the same. Try ice and heat to reduce any Inflamation. I still get some joint pain due to the Olaparib But it’s all fine. I hope mum gets some relief and you get to stop worrying xx
