Pain from Chemo attacking cancer?

Hi - I hope everyone is doing okay and enjoyed Easter.

Just a quick query - I restarted another round of chemo and had the first on 28 March (carbo and doxil). Towards the end of last week I had a pain in my right side which increased and was really nasty over the weekend (is now easing off). I have had similar pains on and off for years but not that intense. I had no other symptoms at all. I rang my Nurse Specialist today who said she felt that it was probably the chemo aggravating the cancer (hopefully beating it into submission with big boots!). She also asked my oncologist and he agreed, but they both said just to be safe to see my GP and get some proper painkillers (just waiting hear if I can see my GP or may need to go to the walk-in centre). Has anyone else experienced this? I don't remember it happening when I had my first round two years ago...

Thanks xx

Hi LesleyGB , have to say that I had same with my first line of Carbo/Taxol.Strong shooting pains in certain areas after each dose.So intriguing that I would draw a stick man in my diary each month & put crosses where I felt the cancer was being targeted.Quite interesting to look back on & it definitely worked so even if it gives you something else to focus on , can’t do any harm 🤗Take care & sending big hugs for the rest of your treatment. Hi Lesley,I definitely had pains in my thighs like stabbing pains when i had carbo/taxol nearly 7 years ago,. I spoke to Oncologist and they reduced the taxol by 20% and I was fine after that.

Hopefully you will get it sorted quickly, as it is bad enough having the chemo.

Good luck with the rest of your chemo.x

Yep me too! Worst on carbo/taxel but still had them a bit on single agent carbo. It helps to think that it’s the cancer getting bashed, I found I could tolerate it much better when it was a positive pain xx

I do remember getting abdominal pains for a day or 2 after the chemo. The pains were more intense as the treatment progressed.

I'm sure it was the chemo working it's magic.

You could try taking painkillers regularly on the day of treatment before the pains start.

Take care and good luck with the treatment.
