Anti-viral drug for Covid

Hello,

I hope everyone is as well as they can be and feeling loved snd safe.

I haven’t been on for a while but currently doing fine. Well until 1 March when out of the blue Covid struck! Triggered the offer of the anti- viral drug which has arrived today. The thing is the prescribing Dr didn’t really seem to know about Niraparib and said it wasn’t on his list!

I am feeling so much better so now I am thinking shall I take it?

Has anyone else had the drug? Did it help?

Thanks

Cheryl x

Perhaps ring the hospital and ask them. Have you been given a twenty four hour emergency number?

I took the anti viral Monulparivir for Covid in December and found it reduced my coughing by 50% within 10 hours. I had had my 6th cycle of carbotaxol about 3 weeks before. It was prescribed by my hospital..

Being on niraparib means you are not as vulnerable as you would be if you were on chemo, or very recently finished chemo. So far as I'm aware, anti viral medications need to be started within 5 days of onset of infection to be effective, so unless you can talk to someone urgently, that 5 day window will have passed. If you have to decide for yourself, I'd be inclined to base it on my symptoms - if I felt ill or was coughing a lot or something, I'd take it, not so sure I'd bother if I felt much improved, but its not an easy decision to make without guidance. On the other hand, any medic you speak to is very likely to say take it anyway regardless of symptoms...

Hi I went down with covid in February on olarparib spoke to my support nurse and was told to come of tablets as my immune system was very low so after doing 2 lateral flow test they said I would be entitled to immune therpy but also had to have a positive PCR test which I did and to have it within the first five days which I did then told the support nurse she then said to go to a and e so I could have this treatment after telling them while in there a doctor phone me saying about this treatment but I could not have it that day it had to be ordered so they did my obs sent me home and said they ring but didn't phone hospital and they said had to see what bloods were doing still off cancer tablets then asked about immune treatment they said said I missed the 5 day slot and could not do it . I have now had to have the cfgc injections and yet another blood test it's just not fair the queen got her self sorted sorry about the long moan but I feel let down and made to look a fool.
