Hi. Are you having low blood counts? I don’t really know what a bone profile test is unless it’s a bone density test or bone marrow test. You should call your CNS and ask. Xx
I. Am on 5th chemo cycle prior to op in October and had a bone profile test 2 weeks ago along with other pre chemo day blood checks. I thought it was standard procedure and did not think to ask why. Am stage 4b when diagnosed last March. Sorry this post is not casting much light on our darkness.
Bone Profile Test measures and analyses the proteins, enzymes, and minerals that are present in your bones. Insight into these substances lets you and your doctors understand the health of your bone structure and its development.
Blood tests are very powerful in catching changes within the body as a result of treatments, for example:
Bone Density: Long-term exposure to chemotherapy leads to bone loss and increases the risk of osteoporosis and fractures.
Bones and Niraparib: One of the "serious side effects" of the Niraparib is within the bone marrow causing Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) or a type of blood cancer called Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).
Investigations for both conditions can be made via blood tests looking for early indicators and/or biopsies.
