Wondering how many lines generally before you become resistant. I have had two so far, partial response both times, 7 months between line 1 and 2,which is borderline for resistance isnt it ? Had surgery now but obviously going to have to carry on with chemo.

How many lines of Carboplatin
After my second chemo, I was offered a PARP. Is that not a possibility for you? Have you had feedback from the hospital yet?
I had Carboplatin before and after debulking. I was stable for about 6 months but was deemed sensitive and given carbo/caelyx after that. When I recurred maybe 6/7 months later I started Rucaparib for 5 months, which didn't work. Then Taxol for 4 months which stopped working. Now back on Carbopaltin which hopefully will work again after a 3 year gap. Second infusion on Tuesday. I think after a long gap you can become de sensitized. I have heard of a method of de sensitising but not sure where I heard it. Perhaps someone on here could help. Good luck with your treatment RosebineLove from Angela xx
Hi. I’ve had carbo for 3 lines. Carbo/paclitaxel, carbo gemcitabine and then carbo by itself. They all worked great, but after 3rd line it recurred very quickly, so deemed resistant. I have been told that it is a possibility to try again in the future, when other avenues exhausted. Hope this helps. Therese P.S. The first two lines, the gap was 11 and 11.5 mths respectively. The 3rd line it srarted progressing at 3 mths.
HiI had three lines carboplatin/Taxol/Avastin first line then two lines of carbo only. A year between one and two then 9 months then 7 so deemed resistant. Had cayelyx (only three of 6 planned) followed by taxol which had great results at first but was not to be.
I am now taking Letrozole with plans to see if any suitable trials are in the offing.
If Letrozole keeping things steady will stay with that.
Trouble is everyone is different, no one size fits all.
Best of luck with your treatment.
Janet
Hi RosebineMy approach - and this is a very personal decision- would be to try and increase/re-establish sensitivity by complementary herbal supplements +, possibly, hyperbaric oxygen (I know about this from a friend with MS, but it’s now used more widely with a number of conditions). I don’t know if you’re open to this approach, but if you are, try the canceractive website (lots of info on both medical and complementary).
My personal experience was that I responded super-well to Carboplatin (down from 721 to normal in 2 cycles) much to my oncologist’s surprise as, from my cancer’s profile, she didn’t expect me to respond much, if at all, and indeed, my first meeting with her was pretty negative. And the only thing I did which might have contributed is the complementary stuff.
Bear in mind that, in the UK at least, there are very few doctors who know anything about this, and most of them will automatically dismiss it. However, there is decent research behind the recommendations and you can read the original studies to help you make up your own mind. My view was that it was worth trying, even if it didn’t work, but this is a very individual decision.
I've had 3 lines of carboplatin in all, the third time I had it along with Caelyx. I have had fairly long gaps in between which does help I think. I see that some people have suggested treatment with one of the maintenance drugs to give you more time in between to de-sensitise, perhaps that's worth finding out about. Wishing you the very best anyway
