Ascites

Hello, I was recently diagnosed with high grade serous ovarian and had my first chemo on Tuesday. Prior to that I was really suffering from ascites and was drained a few days before chemo. The ascites is back with a vengeance but suspect the Onc will want me to wait a few days before draining again so as not drain the chemo. Does anyone have any advice / tips on how to deal with the pain and discomfort ? Or what got them through. Pain killers don’t seem to work. To add to my woes the steroids prescribed are keeping me awake! Many thanks.

Sorry to hear about the diagnosis and about your discomfort and pain. The good news is that chemo tend to dry out the ascites and hopefully it will do so for you very fast. Perhaps best to contact your team and/or Macmillan nurse for stronger painkillers.

I hope you'll feel better very soon.

Hi I am so sorry about your diagnosis and that you have pain/ discomfort. I also found that the ascites dried up with chemo. I'm fact I lost about 2 stone in very short time which my Dr said was mainly ascites. In meantime perhaps use pillows/ cushions to support sitting/ sleeping. I think I found the more upright I was the better. Really hoping chemo kicks things into touch. Xxx
