Kindness of Strangers

Two days ago I was admitted to hospital and after some tests it was decided to start my chemo there and then. I was in a ward with two other beautiful ladies Sue and Angie who had similar cancers to mine and had lived with treatments over a number of years. They made the day funny, caring and so supportive for me I was honoured to have spent time with them and they made the time easy and pleasant for me. They may never read or know this but I wanted to share as it taught me a lot about seeing the people behind their conditions. The staff at Royal Marsden in Surrey were also without exception amazing, it seems amusing to me that what previously I experienced as dread turned into a really good time!

I'm so pleased to read your post. It helps to hear of others experiences. It is always like this when I received treatment, positive and caring. Take it easy for the next few days. xxx.

Hi Farawla

So glad that you are feeling more positive about your situation and that your treatment wasn't as bad as you anticipated. Meeting people in a similar situation definitely helps! Take care of yourself over the next few days and let us know how you are getting on.

That’s lovely to hear Farawla...my initial stay in hospital was isolating on my own in a Covid ward... very lonely! Pleased you had such a supportive experience xx

I’m so very pleased your experience was one filled with nice people who helped you through a scary time. I met some lovely ladies and chaps too when I had my treatment, I had weekly taxol and tri weekly carbo so went every Thursday to the Christie. There was a number of us on the same trial, we used to meet up for lunch or breakfast (treatment times dictated this) in the restaurant and then through clinic and treatment together. It really made an arduous experience one we quite enjoyed and, odd though it may seem, we were quite sad when our Thursday club ended. I still keep in touch with one lady in particular, we’ve become good friends, as have our husbands. The people around us during any experience help to make it or break it.

I hope the rest of your treatment is kind to you, take care ❤️Xx Jane

I have to say my trips to get chemo have always been very good. Whoever I’ve gone with has been great fun and the nurses and tea ladies have always been fun and happy and we always have had a nice time. Seems strange under the circumstances but I’m grateful and totally understand where you are coming from.

Cheers

Were you on Smithers Ward at the Sutton Marsden. I found the nurses there really friendly and supportive. Glad your experience was so positive. Hope you’re doing well.

Thanks Julia, actually I was in Oak ward because I think Smithers was closed off by Covid, they are all lovely at Sutton Marsden, I feel very grateful to be looked after there x
