Hi, I am half way through my chemo (carbo/taxol) and am awaiting surgery in the next couple of weeks. I have a very healthy diet (fruit/veg/nuts/berries/green tea and olive oil) and a positive mind. But I was wondering what supplements are advisable. Many thanks.

Supplements during treatment
Check this with your oncologist, I took supplements right through my treatment, these were all cleared by my team prior to commencing the chemo. I still take them to this day.
It’s important they know what you are taking or planning to take as they could possibly have adverse effects.
I believe a really healthy diet is so very important, I follow the rainbow diet principles, a healthy diet helps us keep as well as possible to fight this disease but sometimes we also need chocolate too 😊.
Good luck with your surgery, if you need any advice both prior and after the surgery just holler. We’ve all been there and between us have some excellent information to make you feel more human and ease through the post op period.
Take care ❤️Xx Jane
Hi Dexta,
Yes do check with your Oncologist. My Oncologist said, ‘No’, to all supplements except a daily multivitamin. This is because no trials have been done to see if these supplements interact in any way with the chemotherapy drugs. I was disappointed, as I felt that it was something that I could do/choose. I’ve been obedient & instead try to eat healthily & include foods like garlic, turmeric powder, fruit & veg, green tea.
Best wishes,
Linda xx
Hello Dexta,
Like Linda, below, my oncologist would not allow me to take any supplements except a multivitamin when I was being treated for stage 3b ovarian cancer. This is because some chemotherapies are plant based and so any other plants/herbs can interfere with it. This was in 2011 and I had 8 years remission so I was very glad that I followed his advice. Unfortunately, the cancer came back last year and I have had all sorts of chemo and other drugs but I still follow the no supplement advice and I think it has worked well for me.
