QUICK UPDATE

Hi Ladies

Just a quick update on what is happening .

Last chemo (carbo) for 2nd recurrence on 27th December. Problems with veins both getting blood and putting cannula in. Half way through infusion hand started swelling so infusion stopped and consultant said to leave it. Managed half of it.

Ended up in hospital 10 days later with a high temperature. Bloods showed an infection but not sure where. Put on fluids and antibiotics. Cannula too small to take infusion. After 6 or 7 attempts to put another in (managed 1 but it fell out) sent home with oral antibiotics.

CT scan at my local hospital last Friday. Arranged to see IV nurse first, cannula straight in no problems with ultrasound . Apparently my cancer treatment hospital does not have IV nurses!

Results of CT in 2 weeks. Always a worrying time. Don't think anymore treatment options but "watch and wait"

Has anyone experienced a very swollen abdomen? Last CT and ultrasound show very little Ascites but "fat stranding" and some "omental caking". I know I am eating a lot without much exercise. A little painful at times but mainly uncomfortable.

Hope everyone keeping as well as possible and that 2020 is a breakthrough year for OV cancer treatments.

Hi Jan

I sometimes have trouble with cannula going in they warm up my arm then put a vein finder on it . I hope you can carry on with your plan it's always a worry for us .

Thanks for reply. They use an ultra sound to find veins at my local hospital but told this facility not available at hospital where treatment is carried out.

Dear Jan,

If you are on regular treatment or about to go on a trial or another treatment, your nurses should have recommended either a PICC line or a Port.

Once inserted , by a trained technician, all your infusions and blood work are so much easier.

I balked at this myself, after my very first infusion was a bust, with spillage on my wrist and panic in the chemo suite, but now I am an d hand at these(I can’t believe it myself! I have had 3 PICC LINES and 2 ports in less than three years!)

Anyway, you should not have to suffer with this sort of mayhem! Ask your doctor about a port or PICC LINE.

Did ask my consultant about a line but told let's see how things go as only a couple more treatments planned.

If any more treatments advised will definitely push for a line.

Results of scan due a week tomorrow so should be wiser.

Feeling very negative just now so fingers crossed.
