Update on my mum's saga

Hi

Just a quick update on my mum. Her CA125 has now risen to 298. As she has no symptons her consultant was keen for her to just keep on going with the avastin (her last one is in sept).

We managed to get away for the week which was lovely but when she came she has noticed she has a small hole in her gum which her dentist isn't sure what it is and shes developed a lump on her head behind her ear which is painful to touch but her gp can see no infection but he's declared she has gone cancer!!!!

She knew she was facing further treatment but her gp has totally thrown her now. She sees her consultant next thur so we'll know more then 🙄

Hope you are all doing ok ❤

Hello

I hope it isn’t a recurrence. I wouldn’t go by the GP pronouncement but see what the oncologist thinks. I thought I was having a recurrence 18 months ago but nothing ever happened (no symptoms) ... I think in some ways getting it again is harder to diagnose than the first time. Best wishes to you and your Mum xx

Hiya Lyndy

Hope your ok?

Thank you for your kind words. My mum never got NED and the lowest her CA125 has been is 49. She still had some stranding and nodules so I always think she expected that she would need further treatment but I just think her GP saying she had bone cancer because of a tender lump on her head is a bit unreal. I understand him being cautious but to drop that bombshell without any proof is a little careless. I think they don't realise the impact they have. There's no love lost between my mum's GP and her consultant and I think sometimes it's a battle of the wills between them 🙄

She's been given some antibiotics just in case....if only it was that easy 🤪

Oh dear,

But that is worrying. Her GP sounds like a piece of work who deserves a piece of your mind!

Usually, a lump behind your ear is a swollen lymph node due to infection, including a gum infection.

Hopefully, her consultant will straighten everything out, although before your appointment, perhaps you should call her CNS for advice.

Maybe she needs to be looked at by experts ASAP.

Best wishes,

Laura

Hi Laura

I hope your doing ok? You look great 😊

I refuse to see this particular GP for the simple fact I always feel worse coming out than what I did going in. I think he's OTT with my mum now for the simple fact he was one of the GP's that told my mum she had IBS.

She's at a dental hospital seeing a specialist today so she's going to see what they think and then give the nurse a ring.

I think the GP is going to contact my mum's consultant to demand a bone scan so that should be fun at my mum's meeting next week 🙈

I'll update with the latest soon and thank you for your reply.

That all seems good. An MRI or Pet scan can see her bones and you can get a quick result. Plus, it will show everything else also.

A good scan reader can see a lot in there, which can be very helpful.

Good luck with all this!

Thanks Laura, at least it's only a week till she sees her consultant so fingers crossed they can get to the bottom of it 🤞
