I had a CT Scan with Contrast almost 3 weeks ago for my abdomen. I was having a problem and the doctor thought that I had a blockage. The test was negative. The next day after the scan I started with this terrible itching in my hands and feet and I am still having. The feet itching is a little better, but the hands still have the itch. I also have diabetes and am concerned about my kidneys because I heard that the CT Scan with contrast can affect your kidneys.

CAT SCAN
HI there and welcome. you could be allergic to something in the dye, I would ring the scan unit and check it out, all the best
I'm also diabetic. I've been having regular scans in connection with my oc. So far I have had no problems with my kidneys.
Sounds like a reaction to the contrast - its iodine based, usually. Check it out with your doctor, but be sure to tell the Radiology people and the doctor/consultant if you ever need the same scan again - they'll have to do it without the contrast next time, too risky to give it you again.
As for your kidneys, hopefully you were well hydrated when you had the scan, and drank plenty of fluids over the following couple of days, which will help flush it through, but they usually do a blood test (or look at a recent one) to check your kidney function before they do the scan if you need contrast, and if the result was poor, they wouldn't have used the contrast.
