I don't think a blood test could tell if you have anything wrong with your ovaries specifically. You would need a CT scan. Lyn

Lyn is right..you might have a raised ca125 blood result but it can be up for many different reasons. A ct scan may be used to try to pin point what is going on in there.

Don’t forget that the medics start with worst case and then work backwards just in case. Try not to worry...difficult I know x

Thank you I didn’t think doctors would say the evil C word if there wasn’t cause It is so scary got an ultrasound end of this week and go from there fingers crossed and thanks so much do answering me so quickly xxx

Did you have a scan as well or an ultra sound because normally you would need the two to get a definite diagnosis. I imagine your doctor will refer you further for these tests and take it from there

If the ultrasound shows something, they will want to do a CT scan with contrast as well - at least your ultrasound is very soon, so it shouldn't be too long before you know if there's a major problem. Hopefully there isn't anything to see on the ultrasound.

Just to add my voice to others telling you that Ca125 can be raised for lots of other reasons. There are too many false positives for it to be rolled out as a screening test, like cervical smears or mammograms. Your u/s may show ovarian cysts, but they don't have to be malignant. Most aren't. Even if they are 'complex', they won't necessarily be cancer.

I had a CT and an MRI and a huge 22cm tumour, which turned out to be a 'Borderline', clinically benign. It wasn't till they operated and the pathologist had examined it that they could tell whether or not it was cancer. My Ca125 was five times normal, but that was caused by the tumour rubbing against other organs. It went back to normal as soon as it was taken out.

So I'm afraid it might take longer for you to get a diagnosis, but with ov ca it's the pathologist who has the last word, so hold fast and try not to get ahead of yourself.

Best wishes for a positive outcome!
