Do you know what is causing the shortness of breath and mucus build up?
Hi G,
Many home remedies can interfere with chemo drugs so you need to refer your breathlessness & mucus problem to the professionals if you are on chemo, maybe speak to a Cancer nurse specialist?
Is your haemoglobin level low? That will cause breathlessness and if it is really causing you problems you should beg for a blood transfusion even if your level isn’t below 80 (which in UK is the cut-off level).
Many chemo drugs - and Avastin - cause stuffed up nose & dry mucus membranes. On Avastin I resorted to Vaseline up the nose with a cotton bud, which helped me. But as you’d be prone to nose bleeds on Avastin I’m not recommending it!
What drugs are you on?

I would be concerned that it is a pulmonary embolism and would get it checked out as these are very serious.
I was short of breath all through my first line chemo and also had mucus build up. My chest was xrayed many times as the Doctors feared a pleural effusion but luckily it was always clear. In the end my doctor prescribed a nose spray to help with post nasal drip. It helped a bit. If you find anything, please let me know.
I'd ask to see a specialist if it continues. I just put up with it thinking it was 'just' Avastin but it needed a more specialist lung assessment and treatment. I am now coping with my symptoms better.
