Hi, Does anyone have any thoughts on being infused with either Pamidronate (Areida in US) or Zolendronic Acid? I have osteoporosis so of course they want to administer one of the above in between the Carbo and Taxol chemos. However once these bisphonates are in, their in and the thought of persistent flu like symptoms or ostecronosis of the jaw, a risk lasting 10 years looms large. I would rather take the usual weekly tablet which would give me greater control but I was told it was most unlikey to be allowed by the rhumatology clinic? Has anyone else dug their heels in as I am planning to do? Its my body after all.
Thanks

I took alendronic acid when I was on stetoids- I didn't like it but it didn't seem to cause any side effects. I don't know the answer to your question but guess osteoporosis could be quite nasty. You could try a site for steroids or autoimmune diseases.
I had an infusion of zolendronic acid before I had my surgery and chemo, I had hypercalcaemia which kindly draws calcium out of the bones and puts it in the blood stream, the side effects were really awful, the acid infusion was administered to try to counter the effects it was having on my bones, the hypercalcaemia was caused by my cancer, I had no noticeable side effects from the zolendronic acid and the dexa scan I had showed the density of my bones hadn’t been too badly affected by the hypercalcaemia so, if I needed to, I’d certainly have the infusion again.
Hope this helps, I can only speak from my own experience. I can’t find any info on ostecronosis so can’t really comment on the possibility of any occurrence for you but I have had no jaw issues at all, my hubby will be testament to this 😊, and I didn’t have any noticeable flu like symptoms from the infusion either.
