Recurring Headaches

Hi lovey ladies,

I wondered if anyone has experienced a lot of headaches while on carbo/gem? I had 2 or 3 after first dose and then a recurring one that lasted a week after second dose.

Sorry you are suffering with headaches. I don’t have any wise words from experience and the only thing I can think of is to make sure you are drinking plenty of water etc, difficult when managing the queasiness post chemo. Hope you find a solution. All the best Jo 🌺🌼🌸🌻🌹

This is going to sound mad but I got really bad headaches after carbo/taxol and it turned out to be because I was gritting my teeth so hard. More painkillers and less stoicism helps me!

Sometimes it's a simple thing we are doing that causes a lot of discomfort. With all the stress we have it's not surprising we grit our teeth. Will take painkillers, drink fluids and try to relax.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Hi Lizzy, I would get some short term headaches from Gem Avastin and also a bit of blurry vision which cleared once Gem was finished so perhaps it is the Gem, You know you don't drink while on Gem as it contains alcohol

Hi Suzuki

Thanks for this information. I don't drink and have been wondering if it was the gem. So it's useful to hear your experience.

I don't drink much either so felt that is why I went off colour for a few hours after Gem and Avastin, I was like someone in detox but it would pass

Hi. I started on this combo four weeks ago. I have exactly the same issue. The headache came on about 5 hours afterwards and was severe, it then settled into a low level headache continuously for the three weeks, through the gem top-up and the next combo last Friday. The headache ramped up again 5 hours afterwards again, and has now settled into low level again. Oncologist was surprised. Mine is like a tight band across my forehead. I am wondering whether the drugs are playing hell with my blood pressure. I do have high blood pressure which I take medication for, so I am going to visit my GP this week to have a series recorded.

Hi Tarbon

Your experience is very very similar to mine with a severe then constant headache. The ONC is changing my sickness meds and has given me strong painkillers. However, I am not sure this will work.

Hope you find a solution as this constant pain is very uncomfortable indeed especially on top of everything else.

Lots of hugs
