Low grade serous ovarian cancer
Hi. There are a few ladies on here with LG. My Mum was diagnosed stage 3c LG in November 2010 and is currently on a trial drug at the Royal Marsden.
Have you just recently been diagnosed?
I was diagnosed 7 yrs ago. I had the full debulking surgery followed by chemo therapy was stable for about 12 months then on watch and wait for 6 months before starting second line. Then had a 12 month break before trying hormone blocker (letrozole). Letrozole was unsuccessful so I started weekly taxol, which brough my CA125 down and stabilised my cancer. With 12 months it started to progress again but I delayed treatment for as long as possible. My next treatment was a clinical trial and I was on that for 12 months but had to. stop it due to side effects. It was a shame because it was working so now I am on watch and wait again and I have pleural effusions on both sides of my chest.
However after saying all that up until recently and even through treatments I was able to do most things and I live alone.
LGSC.. yup, got that. It's a bit of an oddball diagnosis. On one hand, one is glad that it's slow to grow, and often starts as borderline tumour which is not even invasive. On the other hand, the list of proven and effective treatments is somewhat limited, as those tumour cells often don't respond as well to chemo therapy as the more prevalent high grade cells.
You can find details on my diagnosis and treatment in my profile (click on my name).
Are you affected by it yourself? Do you have any specific questions around it?
All the best. Maus
Hi I was diagnosed with Low Grade in Jun 2012 after 4 chemos I had full de bulking op then another 3 chemos all clear for 4 yrs then it came back in 2016. I was offered chance of trial & have been on a daily tablet of Trametinib for the past 2yrs had horrible side effects to start with, but they lowered the dose & although I still have wee niggily side effects nothing too annoying. Although nothing is shrinking nothing is getting any bigger, I’m leading a full & active life. (God willing long may that continue).
