Anyone Birmingham based?
Hello Maggie. My mum is under Heartlands but had her debulking surgery at Dudley Road. I drove her home afterwards and it was the most stressful journey ever! So, I'm on the site on behalf of mum but I hope someone else gets in touch who is having treatment at Heartlands. Jane XX
Hi Jane, nice to hear from someone in my area. Happy to hear your mom is doing well and in remission.
I had my debulking surgery done at Dudley rd although they call it city hospital now don’t they 😃. I was in icu for 4 days with a few hiccups but then was fine when up on the ward. I am guessing your mom propbably had the same surgeon? Couldn’t have asked for anyone more qualified to do what she did for me.
Oh my yes I remember the drive home from the hospital. Hubby was driving but I was terrified with not knowing where I was. Had pillow over my tummy, sick bowl and stuck on the m6 as thought it would be the quicker route for us 😡🤢.
Anyway good luck to you both for many years of good health. Maggie x
Did you know that the oncology dept is moving from ward19 at heartlands to solihull ? Probably by end of February x
Hi Maggie and yes I live in Shirley - having treatment at Heartlands. Have literally just come out of hospital having had this awful ascites drained - am hoping to get my mojo back or at least try!!!
Was really interested to hear ward 19 moving to Solihull - definitely not before time in my book!!
Whereabouts are you? Lovely to hear from fellow West Midlanders!!!

Hi maz, I am in marston green but know Shirley very well as my sister lived there for many years and my son lives just off dovehouse lane.
Sorry you’ve ended up in hospital but hopefully with plenty of rest you will recover from it. I’ve not experienced having ascites drained so can’t imagine what that entails.
Yes it will be nice going to solihull for treatment. I think it’s going to be about a 25 seater unit with 2 staff per 6 patients. I am a phlebotomist at solihull although not worked for last 12 months but hope to go back soon.
Lovely to hear from you. Maggie xx
Hi Maggie - that gladdens me about Solihull - have found ward 19 absolute chaos most of the time! The poor nurses do their best but are working under incredible pressure and against the odds all the time - just needs a much bigger unit for the amount of patients coming through !
Have been to Solihull phlebotomy many times; I'm a nurse myself or was in a former life! Whereabouts are you in your treatment? Feel free to message me privately if you prefer - lovely to hear from you too 😍

Hi Maggie, I'm in the Sheldon area and have my treatment at Heartlands, although like you I had my surgery at City Hospital and spent about the same amount of time in ICU as you did. I had at least 2 surgeons - Mr Baluga (or something like that) and Miss Singh. They did a marvellous job.
I've not heard anything about ward 19 transferring to Solihull; in fact, my appointments have transferred from Clinic 1 Outpatients to ward 19 from now on. Dr Fernando has re-jigged his clinic to see BC ladies in the morning and gynae patients in the afternoon. That's all I know so far. Am not happy about that, would rather stay in Outpatients, the ward sounds a bit chaotic!
