Lymph nodes

Hi ladies and gents, I saw my oncologist last Monday for the results of my scan. I was told that it is now in my lymph nodes in my chest, I wondered if anyone else has had this. So now I have to go back on chemo starting this Tuesday. He has now taken me off the tamoxifen, I was so hoping they would help me. Xx

This time last year I found out that my cancer had spread through my lymph system to the lymph nodes in my chest.

I have low grade disease and for the past year I have been on a clinical trial. That has been keeping my cancer stable.

I have got pleural effusion on both sides of my chest. I had the one on the right drained in October and it was milky in appearance and the labs came back that it was something called a chylothorax. This is when lymph fluid from the duct in your chest leaks. It’s pretty rare and so far it has been stable.

However this has been my experience it does not necessarily mean it will be yours.

I’m sorry you didn’t get the scan results we all want for you.

I can’t offer you any advice re the lymph system but I hope the chemo grabs the disease by the proverbials, take lots of care, big hugs and love ❤️Xx Jane

Have they confirmed it is cancer in the lymph nodes? I had enlarged lymph nodes but they went down on their own, CT scans were 12 weeks apart, oncologist said that they must have been inflammed, possibly from infection.

Good luck with chemo, try not to worry

Thank you la, he did say it was in my lymph nodes in my chest and he said I should feel some lumps but not feeling any yet. I had a bad cough over Christmas and had antibiotics for it, it would be a relief if it was the remains of the infection. Xxx

Sorry to hear this, Juliette. I have cancer in the lymph nodes, but in a different place from you - in the armpit and near my left collar bone - they explained to me that the lymph node is connected with what is going on in the abdomen. I have just been told they are going to give it 5 shots of radiotherapy, as it has been steadily growing and is now a definite lump. It began last summer and the lymph flow blockage has given me lymphoedema (swelling) in my left arm, hand and breast. Apart from that it doesn't cause me trouble, and I think it's maybe not as bad a thing to happen as cancer going to the lungs or liver. That's how I keep myself positive, anyway. Hope all goes as well as it can. x

Thanks Judy that's what I was frightened about it getting to my lungs. Have you ever been on water tablets, I was prescribed them early on. Xx

Not sure if you mean me, Juliette - I'm Christine not Judy. Anyway, I've never been on water tablets. x

I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer ( fallopian tube cancer) almost 2 years ago after I felt bloated and pain in low back and leg and bled when I hadn't had a period in 10 years (I am 54). I had the first big surgery and everything came up clear. Then after 6 chemos of carbo/Taxol my tumour markers came up again and the pain in my low back and right leg became worse. They kept telling me it was regional pain syndrome and unrelated to the cancer, but I didn't agree, I felt very strongly that cancer was somewhere in my low back or pelvis/hip area. Finally they did pet scan revealed it had gone into lymph nods and had become a series of tumours between the L2-L5 and was to dangerous to operate. I pushed a few surgeons and one agreed they could do it. So I had a 3rd big surgery and only to find out they left one behind they couldn't see hiding behind the Vena Cava and now for sure no surgeons will touch it as I could bleed out. I finished 25 rounds of radiation last month only to have Pet scan and find out it didn't do a thing to that tumour and also found out they found 7 new nodules in my both lungs, one being 7mm the largest. My question is because I also was diagnosed with MRSA that super bug during my radiation, could this be swollen lyphmnods in my lungs from that possibly ? They haven't done a biopsy yet, I am waiting to see respirologist. I just was retested for MRSA and I still tested positive even though they had given me antibiotic's 2 mths ago to treat it, obviously they were ineffective.

Im grasping at straws, as I would rather it be an infection then cancer of my lungs.

If it for sure is cancer has anyone any advice or been through something similar?

What treatments can you recommend or heard of etc? They are planning chemo at end of Jan using Avastin and gemcitabine. Has anyone experienced this combo with any success and how bad are side affects, do you lose hair? Im very nervous as I was so sick on carbo/taxol and radiation. any info is so appreciated. thank you

Hi onelifetolive, so sorry you have been through all that and then for them to say the radiation hadn't worked. I have had carbo/taxol and I did loose my hair on that. I was also put on avastin after finishing first line chemo, but it didn't work for me. Didn't get any side effect while I was on it. I haven't had radiation treatment and I hope I don't have to have it. Sending you love and hugs 💕. Julie xx

I’m sorry about your scan results, that a tough disease this is. But it seems like they are cracking on with a treatment plan for you immediately which is good news! It sounds like you have a proactive team behind you to help. I’ve no direct experience of the lymph nodes but am sending you a bag full of love anyway. Nicky xx

Thank you nikki, I believe in my oncologist. But now I am feeling chesty and coughing and bringing up phlegm, I finished my antibiotics last week so could be a bit of infection lingering there. Lots of love Julie. Xx
