Rough Night

I know most of the time we have trouble moving our bowels and need to take something to help us.

I had the opposite problem early hours it wasn't pleasant and has left me feeling out of sorts today. My dignity is feeling a little bit dented.

I have taken some loperamide and it seems to have stopped but I haven't felt much like eating ๐Ÿคข

Poor you. I can remember those early hours visits to the loo when I was having first line treatment. It always happened in the middle of the night when the house was freezing. I was lucky though that it was only for one or two nights and the severity slowly abated as the cycles went on.

Even when not cancer and / or treatment related, I think not wanting to eat after such an episode is not uncommon.

Hope you'll soon begin to feel better.

I'm having a bit of the opposite and find bananas bind me up so am steering clear of those. Perhaps you could try bananas with the eggs, when you have some, and avoid high fiber foods? Don't get dehydrated though. You'll feel awful if you do. Best of luck to you. xx

I think it depends on the type of the fibre. Insoluble fibre tends to add bulk but this particular episode upset me the most as I was caught by surprise and had an accident

I feel for you and sympathise!! I'm so afraid of having an accident once I've got over the constipation with my chemo. I get my lovely, long-suffering husband to swap to my side of the bed so I can rush more quickly to the bathroom from his side. He also now gets told off if he leaves the loo cover DOWN at night, after all the years of being told he should. ๐Ÿค” I tease him and say " It's no good. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks". When in a rush, it's amazing how long just lifting the lid seems to take ๐Ÿ˜ฒ How this flaming cancer affects us in all sorts of bizarre ways, lol!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜…

Hope you feel better soon. Love, Solange ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thank you I live alone so don't have to worry about that but I still feel embarrassed. In this particular instance it just happened I did not even feel the urge to go

Bananas! I was told we all think they will loosen the bowels but they bind us, that was from a health professional xx

I shall remember that for future occasions

That's horrible when that happens, so I do sympathise....

Eggs would not be my thing, but there you go. Semolina? Whether you eat or not, do make sure to keep your fluids up. Have you got any Dioralyte? Hope you feel better soon. x

Try the Brat diet -bananas, rice, applesauce and dry toast. very bland but should gently bind you back up. Its always a balancing act. Just don't overdo it or might go back to being constipated. Its really like a see saw isn't it?

Hugs, Carol

The loperamide did the trick thanks

Hi - hope you're starting to feel better. With the LOGS trial as you say side effect. It might be worth considering taking the Loperamide regularly. I have an ileostomy and took the tests for the trial and we discussed 'high output' as an issue and upping my loperamide dose was suggested. So have a chat to your Rearch Nurse. In the meantime, plenty of fluids and eat what you are most comfortable with. I find anything with gelatine helps slow down my output - pastilles are my favourite and marshmallows but jelly works well too!! Take care.

Hi hope you are back to normal soon and this isn't a persistent side effect. I suspect that the sudden shock of the incident that is most upsetting. I feel for you. Not the same but I had it with my ileostomy once and the lack of warning as much as the incident upset me.

I think it is the embarrassment factor that has unsettled me the most

Yep that's what upset me. I'm sorry. It's great you are on the trial but the side effects aren't great.

All cancer treatments have nasty side effects

Hope you can find a treat to distract you from thinking about it, even if it's just a good tv programme x
