Hi Ladies. Well I think I've turned the Carboplatin Corner.... feeling a bit more like me ..well whoever me is now lol.
Can I ask if anyone has coloured their hair whilst having Carboplatin? I am so desperate I am totally grey as I'm sure many of you are too but I'm so embarrassed how it looks... Got wigs but I sweat so much. Would it be ok to use just a temporary colour??
Thank you for any advise given xx

This question has been asked before I remember the conflicting replies! I had 6 cycles of carboplatin only, no taxol, finished in Jan and coloured my hair twice during that time with Clairol Loving Care, had no problems. I do know a lot of people recommended a product from Holland and Barret, I am sure someone will tell you what it was. Hope the carbo was successful, I just got my first NED last Sat! Take care. x
Wow! I just wanted to say your hair looks amazingly thick and healthy!
I didn't color mine when on carbo but I did when on Doxil. I didn't think it took too well just came out a darker grey. Then I had highlights so now it's kind of a grey blonde
Your hair looks amazing! My special persons hair was lovely and thick until she coloured it (and had more chemo due to reoccurrence) then it went thin. I would say a combination of colouring and chemo so wouldn't personally colour it I would also do as my mum and grandmother said grow old disgracefully π Xxx
Hey Ricky, I started to go gray at 21 and I actually think gray is quite pretty. Chemicals put on the skull to color hair aren't very healthy for us. There are a few newer vegetable based dyes, but I've never tried them. You're hair looks great to me!
Hi Ricky Glad you are feeling better. As for colouring your hair I was told by my hairdresser not to. I think your hair looks great. As you can see from my photo Im grey, well white on top to be honest and I just decided to grow old disgracefully, you would be surprised fow many compliments I get. Kathy xx
Mine has grown back quite similar and I get so many compliments, so I would stick with the grey.
Some ladies are paying good money to get their hair as lovely as yours. πΊ
Hi, I think your hair looks fabulous. When I was on carbo/gem last year my hairdresser used a semi permanent on my hair. Sadly I have lost my hair again on Taxol ππ
Looks great. After treatment I embraced my natural hair colour and have had a lot of compliments about the grey and black mix. I like it as I feel as if it's the real me, and I don't want any chemicals on it now - taking no risks! My stylist agrees with me.
If mine was grey or even peppered like my mums was I would leave mine, but mine is snow white and I am dark skinned so I just cant bear the thought of it, vanity I know! x
My hair grew back in the same as yours, and everyone told me to keep it like that as it looked good, but I just couldn't do it, so I coloured it!! I used a colour with no amonia and had no problems, however I had finished my chemo. hope this helps, and good luck for the future.
Hi mine has come back the same, I was at a support group last night and one of the lovely ladies said she uses natural hair colour from Holland & Barret it has no chemicals. Her hair was lovely so off to buy some. Your hair is fab but totally understand the grey uncertainty.
Looks good , thick and healthy but can understand how you feel about trying to reclaim you !
I had a Snow White patch of regrowth in the middle of my hair where I lost it during chemo kept the rest with using cold cap but had always had colour .
Checked with the oncologist and didn't colour during chemo but she asked a lead pharmacist at hospital and was told it was ok to do as soon as finished carbo/taxol ( still on Avastin ) as couldn't bear to wait another 6 months as some advice had said. Hairdresser did a patch test first and used an ammonia free dye . All good and took 10 years off me . Although I have to say the colour didn't last as long as used to and faded alot on the grey . Am now trying to decide what to do long term as don't really want to keep doing every 6 weeks . Although it's a good problem to have as my hair is growing well and healthy so taking that as a good sign that my body is recovering ! May just have some high lights through to break up the grey . Was even thinking of going teal this month but my 20 year old daughter wasn't keen !!
Hope you are happy with whatever you decide and best wishes . Love Kim x
THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR POSITIVE RESPONSE. I JUST FEEL LIKE SOMEONE ELSE AS I'M SURE MANY OF YOU DO. I LOOK LIKE MY MUM HA HA!! I USED TO HAVE LOVELY BLONDE LONG HAIR..I MOURN IT ...IT'S AT THAT MESSY STAGE NOW WHICH IS ALWAYS DIFFICULT FOR EVERYONE. I ASKED ABOUT HAIR EXTENSIONS BUT IT'S STILL TOO SHORT. MY SON GETS MARRIED IN AUGUST AND I'M DESPERATE TO LOOK LIKE HIS MUM.
BUT WILL BE GUIDED BY THE ADVICE DON'T WANT TO END UP EVEN WORSE OFF. LAST YEAR WHEN I HAD TAXOL I DYED IT BUT IT TURNED OUT LIKE A WITCH LOL.
My hair is exactly like yours and everyone seems to love it as they say it's authentic!! Yours looks fabulous and strong, very healthy too. I would keep it that way! Xxx
Go for it .I got highlights all over. It's just on the hair not painted on your skin. I was carbo only and had no problems with colour. My hair grew back "white" and I love it. But I still put highlights in it to keep I bright and clean looking.
Hi, as my consultant said 'what is normal'! I had foils done at my hairdresser's and it didn't half give me a huge boost. Obviously they don't touch the scalp and I was happy as Laurie and I had it done just before my third treatment and last one! I had asked the question about dyeing my hair and was told not too but I was recommended the foils by someone else.
Hi Ricky- I lost all my hair from the chemo so i did not color it until I finished but there is a hair color called NATURTINT by Phergal that has no ammonia in it.. It is really gentle and covers very very good. I have used it three times now and it lasts as long as regular hair color. I bought mine at a health food store.
Good luck! Looks like you have a lot of hair. Let me know what you think if you use it!
It's stunning as it is but I so understand how you feel. why not try a few highlights just to lift your already fabulous colour, a few light ones towards the front would be really nice. Grey is so trendy at the moment and young girls are paying fortunes to go grey whilst us more mature ladies are spending fortunes to hide what nature has given us.
I lost every bit of mine during chemo so was excited to see what Mother Nature had bestowed on me, I was gunmetal grey π¬ and so yuk that I had blonde highlights put in to lift it.
When I was on chemo my hairdresser used Aveda organic colour on my hair which I'd managed to hang onto using the cold cap. Go for one of the lighter shades as it tends to come up dark if you try it. If mine looked as good as yours does grey I would keep it like that though. Let us know what you decide. Sophia xxxx
Your hair is beautiful just like you are.. We earned this grey the hard way. I have actually had 2 hair dressers ask me what color I used... I call it my chemo hair color... cause that's the truth. then they don't know what to say. I smile and have to say Yes Really, and we will laugh. I have to be one of the most Conservative women out in the working world.. but after this past year I am inclined to think Any Color that I put in my hair will be a temp color of either Teal or Purple... just because I can. Just last night I had my pedicure done in Purple... Never ever have I done such crazy things until now..
Your hair color is beautiful! I have the same and decided to just embrace it. I get so many compliments and enjoy not having the expense. I learned from the young lady that cuts my hair that people are now paying big bucks for our chemo-induced hair color. I told her that we payed dearly for it too and that's when I decided to wear it proudly! hope you are feeling great.
