Hope you don't mind...

me asking a question(s). I feel a bit of a fraud as there is nothing really concrete at the moment. I had some tests and one of them was ca125 which I didn't know was being done, it came back 85. I do have fibroids which I know can have an effect on that test.

I had a MRI last Tuesday and its been playing on my mind as to whether this is the best scan to have because after reading quite a few posts/replies on here, I notice that CT's seem to be more the norm for diagnosis.

Also, if I haven't heard anything about the scan yet then maybe there's nothing much to worry about or is that just wishful thinking

Thank you so much for taking the time to read...or reply.

I was told ct better for cancer detection but I think that depends very much on your doctor ladies on here have MRI too... the results of your scan can take about two weeks .... the waiting is the worst bit so hang in in there and try not to worry ... ca125 can be raised fir quite a few reasons 😊

Cardcraft, fear is not fraudulent. You are wise to ask questions early and often. Best of luck on your scan results! We will be here no matter what. Tesla

HI.

Don't feel like a fraud on this site if you need advise or just encouragement just ask, then remember to always talk it over with your physician.

Yes the fibroid can effect the 125 it's good the test was done, try to not stress your self out I know it's easy said then done, my 125 at diagnose was 2700 there are ladies on this site had a lot higher.

Both Ct and MIr are both used for cancer and many other reasons, the MIR is more expensive to have and takes a lot longer and does not use radiation.

The CT is not given too often as the image is taken with radiation.

So I think it just comes down to your physician, when you go back ask why the MIR .

Asking question is so important for you to understand what is happen to your body,

If you are stressing out over the scan give then a couple more day and ring to see if they have the result, or when you will be notified it's ok to take some control.

I HOPE YOU ARE WORRY FOR NOTHING,

Cheers Lorraine xx

Thank you so much for your replies....they mean a lot.

Due to having anxiety/agoraphobia for about 16 years I haven't got any one to speak to. The one person I could speak to, is my Mum but sadly, she had to have a scan on Friday due to a concern about the colour of her bone in an xray she had. They have mentioned Bone cancer.... she already has ME, Fibro and tinnitus so she has been very concerned and has been speaking to me about all her fears. I didn't feel I could tell her what was going on with me as she has enough on her plate.

Sorry for the waffle.....thanks again x

Hello Lovely

There is always someone to talk to on here. If you need reassurance or just want encouragement or just someone to chat to this is the best place I support someone with OC and find the ladies on here a lifeline at times they're very knowledgeable and I appreciate them all.

Hi When I originally had an issue I was firstly given an MIR followed by a CT. I now only have CT, though I did have an MIR for a head scan but that's another story!. I do hope they get your scan sorted and that the results are good. Never feel fraudulent for asking questions. We are all here for you. Sending a big hug. Kathy xxx

Hi there

Welcome.....hugs....so sorry that you have had to join us and , for you, I hope that you will be one of the ladies that is found to have nothing to worry about and that you will put this down to a bad experience.

My consultant has always said that MRI scans are the best. It might be worth your whole chasing up the results are asking you GP to do so for you. A CA 125 of 85 could well be just due to the fibroids.

I also hope that your Mums bone tests come through with a benign result....you both have a lot to cope with at the moment.

Do please let us know how you get on and post any other questions you have.

Love n hugs

Hi, no you're not a fraud at all, you're very worried and need someone to talk to. I've often wondered why some people are given CT scans and others MRI's but always assumed it came down to cost. YOur raised CA125 could well be down to fibroids but the scan will give them more of an idea. I'm sorry to hear about your mum, you really do have a lot to cope with at the moment bless you so keep talking to us, we're here for you, massive hugs, Kerry xx

Thank you again Ladies - you've been extremely kind and understanding.

Luckily my Mum phoned early this evening to say that the doctor phoned and said that the bone issue is all ok.....well that's one result down - just need to find out about mine now.

Hi cardcraft, there is no question on here that is fraudulent, if something is bothering you then ask away.

I had both MRI & CT scans, the MRI is done with magnets and takes quite a while, 45 minutes in my case, the CT only takes about 5 minutes and uses radiation sometimes together with an infusion to get clearer images, the aniseed drink is pretty grim so you're lucky to have missed that bit ☺️.

Different doctors like different scans so don't worry that you had the MRI and not the CT. If they think they need a CT too they'll do one. As for the time the results take, I got answers to both scans within a couple of days mainly because I had a large rapidly growing mass so time was of the essence and the MRI found I had an embolism in my right lung so maybe the MRI is more thorough?

Your CA125 can be affected by fibroids and other factors so try not to worry about it until you get all the results together and get a full picture.

If you've not heard anything in the next couple of days it can't hurt to give your doctor a call, they understand how stressful this can be for us.

I hope your scan is clear, do let us know the results. If it's not clear then we are all here for you and you must feel free to ask anything at any time. Big hugs ❤xx Jane

An ultrasound is usually done first along with your Ca125 which is then followed by CT scan.

Take care x

UPDATE:

A nurse from the hospital called with the results of my MRI - she said there was nothing to worry about but they want me to have a CT scan because they need more info on a cyst on my ovary. I did say if its nothing to worry about why did I need the CT and she said they need a bit more info before deciding on what to do next.....not sure if I should be concerned or not!

I should also say there is a large fibroid but we already knew that but what to extent that has grown ect I have no idea as I couldn't think straight while on the phone - all I could worry about was the fact I need a CT.
