Did your cancer found in your frozen section at first ?

Sorry, Daniella, what do you mean?
I used to work in histology ... sometimes surgeons would take a biopsy and send it for frozen section it's an urgent procedure ... they freeze the tissue solid which enables the scientists to slice the tissue thinly enough to be stained and looked at microscopically to ascertain if its cancer... this is not a routine procedure... normally a biopsy or tissue is sent to pathology ... which is then fixed in chemicals and then embedded in wax .... theses are then called blocks .... the block is then shaved on a machine that is like a really small bacon slicer that cuts really fine slices ... these are then floated on a warm water bath that melts the wax ... the tissue is then captured on a slide stained and looked at ....the latter process takes at least two days to get to pathologist who decides diagnosis depending on the size of original piece of tissue... numerous slices are examined that's why histology reports take so long 😳 Hope this helps
Hi Shellygirl how very succinct.. I never knew and thank you! Love Michelle xx
I had a frozen section taken during surgery and the surgeon and team waited to hear the results (about 20 minutes) - nothing was found at that time in that little piece that was examined. . I was told that might happen.
I was diagnosed during the full pathology investigation and the report showed cells in abdominal fluid and on tumour.
