Significance of 'Teal'

I've seen references to Teal Warriors and Teal Wings on posts, and while I understand what the terms mean, I think, it would be helpful to know where they come from? It would help me feel part of the group to understand.

Hi Rachael,

As far as I know its because Teal is the chosen colour for Ovarian Cancer awareness campaigns, for ribbons, badges T-shirts etc.. I think the warriors and wings are something adapted on this site to represent the ones who are still fighting this dreadful disease and sadly the ones we have lost.

I could be completely wrong, but that is what I have always thought it means...

Take Care

Thank you Andrea. I knew about pink for breast cancer, but hadn't realised there were other colours too.

It is the colour that represents ovarian cancer, just like pink represents breast. There are lots of colours representing various cancers and months raising awareness. Gold is childhood cancer, grey is brain cancer etc.

The warriors are patients still fighting and the wings are sadly the ladies that have passed.

Hope that helps.

I am pleased you asked this question as I hadn't realised exactly what Warriors and Wings meant. When I first joined our community I didn't even know that Teal was a colour, don't quite know why that should have passed me by, but it's something I just didn't know until my diagnosis. I think I would have called it turquoise if pushed. Anyway, thanks to you I now know what Warriors and Wings mean.

Yes indeed Teal is the colour chosen for Ovarian Cancer because we need awareness to educate more ladies of the symptoms and signs of the illness and more importantly to encourage them to speak to their doctors if they are having unexplained symptoms. Pink is certainly given more media coverage but here in Ireland, through Ovacare we are try to raise awareness. Ovacome do the same in the UK. The idea is that not all cancers are pink

It's all pink, that's what I thought. There is such awareness about breast cancer,it gives the impression that other cancers seem less important

Hi Racheal

As every Cancer has its own symbolic colour the colour of Ovarian cancer is Teal. Breast cancer is pink etc. There is a website Colours of Cancer that gives them all. Apologies if you know this already. I am guessing that warriors refers to those fighting the disease . Those who have gained their teal wings have sadly passed on. Hope this helps
