Hi Shellygirl

I suffered from low magnesium throughout my chemo and it persisted afterwards. I asked the consultant for any advice, as my diet seemed to be providing all the necessary stuff (for instance seeds, nuts, spinach, coconut water, etc etc) but there was no improvement. What is your reading now? My consultant has now given up altogether on expecting my levels to get back to normal, and we don't even register this in my bloods readings. Personally I find this a little worrying as I understand that magnesium is a critical element for good health.

Thank you for replying only found out this morning they told me my level was really low so unsure of number. They also said they are now going to be monitoring me. If I can get some more in my diet then guess it's worth a try to boost my levels really fed up at mo as it has added two hours to already long day. πŸ˜–

I had low magnesium but they just gave me a sachet of it mixed in water to drink. It didn't taste very nice but it did do the trick.

That sounds a much better option may ask onc about that. Thank you πŸ˜ƒ

Hi this happened to me, it's a pain as it adds an extra 2hrs onto a long day, I was given sachets and I did try and eat more foods with it in, chemo strips the magnesium from your body. Good luck xxx

Hi. I looked it up and nuts are very good to get magnesium levels up. Obv you can't do that now but worth knowing maybe for future times.... Good luck

Thanks netti.. Not a fan of nuts but don't mind pistachios so I'm sending hubby to get some my nurse said tomatoes so those are on his shopping list too. They said my levels were so low that a may require another infusion next week ... Truly appreciate you looking it up for me... Thank you 😍😍

Yes my magnesium levels dipped during chemo so I ate lots of brazil nuts and my levels went up again. If you grind the nuts in a food processor and add to your breakfast cereal you will hardly notice them ! Hope that helps. I was told that getting nutrients through food is better than supplements where possible. Magnesium is important for good health, I believe.

Buy either Epsom or Dead se salts and soak twice a week for a minimum of 20 minutes using a kilo of salts per bath. It works!! Xxx

I agree Epsom salt baths, you also get magnesium oil which you can rub into the skin and I was lucky enough to find some magnesium shower lotion in America while on holiday. It ran out today πŸ˜•. My levels did drop a bit but never too low and they are starting to come back.
