Need to loose weight.

Since my operation last year and being on chemo, I can't get my weight down. Though saying that, before I started with the c word I was about the same weight but a different shape. 😏. I went to m&s yesterday for a new bra fitting as my old bra's are too small. I have got no waist and all the weight is round my middle and I look about nine month pregnant. I am on weekly taxol. Xx

So many women including me have the same experience. New bra size and expanding tummy. The oncologist didn't seem to mind as the bigger you are the more chemo they can give you . I suppose too that fatigue may stop one from bring as active. I will be interested in any replies you get. It would make you tear your hair out ( if you had any ! ) that in this particular Cancer women put on weight more than lose it. Tske care

Thanks molly, yes I must admit the fatigue feeling doesn't help. Haha I've still got a bit of hair but won't have it for long.

Hi Juliette

I see you got some very interesting replies. I am just in from GP and shops with a rotten pain in my lower back . Have just taken 2 more Tramadol . My brother h is just making chorizo and sweet potato soup which is nowhere near as healthy yours sounds. It is tasty though. Will just have a quiet evening. Have a good weekend .

Hi molly I hope you're feeling better now and your back pain as gone . I know my back hurts sometimes when I have been walking, I blame it on the chemo. Mmm your soup sounds delicious, I will have to try that I love chorizo. Have a lovely weekend. Julie xxx

Julie

I just wrote a reply to you when suddenly a pink line went across the screen and it just wouldn't send ! The gremlins are back.. I have taken my quota of Tramadol and it's still quite painful.I was told after one of my rare scans that I had arthritic changes in my vertebrae . Guess that's another side effect of chemo. That and the fact that I am no spring chicken ! Not quite a wily old bird . I also travelled for an hour in a bone shaker of a bus yesterday . Now I'm off to bed to start a new day tomorrow. I am going to lie around languidly accepting the odd grape or two . The soup was delicious . Have a lovely weekend.

Thanks molly, we had the grandchildren stay over for a couple of days, they went home yesterday so feeling a bit tired now like no energy. Think I will be having a chill out time now.lol xx

Enjoy the rest Julie . I'm about to head for the hospital so they can check the source of very severe lower back pain that happened over the weekend. Night nurse said it could be the carbo but CNS this morning said it couldn't posdibly be ! You can't win ! To be continued ! Have a great chill out . Hope the weather is nice where you are.

Before I was diagnosed I was on slimming world and could not lose weight and my stomach expanded I was at a loss as to what was going on. O discovered I had oc and there was my answer a great big cyst.... I'm still having chemo bit want to lose wait but can't focus on a diet. I think your head has to be in right place to loose weight. Mine isn't at mo but I'm determined to do something once chemo over. I'm going to do slimming world as I find there diet fits into a more normal lifestyle. Having oc makes your life anything but normal so I'm looking forward to being normal again and taking back control. 😍

Try slimming world juliette that's always worked for me. Or just cut your portion sizes down and see what that brings. Xx

Thanks millie and shellie, will try slimming world. I know when I was on caelyex it gave me the munchies so that didn't help. Xx

Slimming world worked well for me and it was easy to combine it with the advice from Penny Brohn about nutrition. I put on a lot during chemo & this was my first experience of 'dieting'. You'll find a lot of recipies at SW use packets and sweetness but it's also easy to eat really healthily, plenty of fruit and veg, good grains and fish and lean meat as well as having the things that make you smile (which in my case was a glass or two of wine!). I steadily shifted the weight off over a year and the group was a great place to do a but of awareness raising during OVCA month!! Good luck xxx

Hi I've been thinking about my 'weight issue' a lot lately. I put on loads of weight during the last 9 years having been through diagnosis and 2 recurrences. I am now a size 18 having put on approximately 5.5 stone. Some days it gets me down, others it doesn't. Tried 'dieting' but to be honest I just decided to be happy with the new me. I have a hubby who adores me for what I look like regardless and to be honest I'm so grateful to still be here I've decided to be fat and happy lol. I know that doesn't suit everyone and I have mentioned it a couple of times to my Consultant but they have dismissed it. So that's me, fat and happy and eating healthily believe it or not! xx

Thank's catmal, it's good you feel that way If I lost half a stone I would b able to get in my clothes and be more comfy. 😊 xx

Hi Julie

Hope you're ok. I think one of the problems we have, is we've got so much to think about, treatment, fatigue etc it's very difficult to put weight loss programmes into practice as well

I'm certainly a different shape to what I was 15 months ago. I just try to eat as healthily as I can, and move as much as possible

However darent get on the scales, as just got back from a few days away where the food was excellent and the wine wasn't bad either!

Lots of love

Judy

Juliette35 profile image
Juliette35

Haha judy, I do like a drop of wine myself and according to my diet book off macmillan it is allowed while on chemo. I do weigh myself once a week and I haven't put anymore on. But I look bigger than I did before the c word, and I was the same weight. Think I will start doing my yoga stretches again.Hope you enjoyed your few days away you sound like you did.🍷cheers πŸ˜‰xx

Hi I'm the same I would like to loose weight at least two stone, it's really hard when you've been on chemo and so many things to think about and fatigue, I have finished weekly taxol and I carried,on working and by the end of the day exercise was the last thing on my mind, but I am now determined to loose it, I am going away for a weekend in October and so I've set it as my goal to loose it by then, wish me luck!!

I'm going to do some walking and hopefully Zumba.

Wishing you all the best

Karen

Thanks karen, I think you have done really well, and working as well. You will loose it, and especially if you start the Zumba. You should loose it quite quickly. And you have a goal to go for. Best wishes, Julie xx

We will get there, as frustrating as it can be we are going through horrible treatment and it takes all our energy.

Thank you, you will to xx

I didn't need chemo , but had two large laparotomies in 5 months. I put on a lot of weight and my stomach looked truly awful. However things settled down and my stomach is now a lot flatter and I have ditched most do the weight....took a few years though. A lot I'm now certain was hormonal imbalance.

You are going through a brutal treatment , so be kind to yourself. When you have recovered from it you will be able to exercise more and your hormone levels will have stabilized....excuse the non scientific term.

Love and hugs xxxx

Thanks Charlie, I know what you mean about the stomach, I look awful. I was snacking a lot when I was on caelyex, but now I am on weekly taxol I don't seem to be wanting to snack the same, so fingers crossed I will get back into a routine with my yoga

Big hugs xxx

I've put on loads of weight since chemo. I'm not as active as previously. I am on medication to aid weight and my GP referred me to the local gym. I get a discount on monthly fee. Starting in September and hoping fat turns to muscle ☺

Pilates have been great too, but hard , and you have to be ready physically for all of these exercises.

Feel reasurrance by all these posts as I am struggling with my weight, keep being told by my onc to do the 5:2 diet and excercise, but you need to feel like doing it, dont you?

Doing the best I can, still less than pre diagnosis and hoping to be less than I Weighed by end of October,

Good luck to all you ladies, let us know your sucess stories and yes, lost 3 stones before with sw,

My hubby loves 5:2 sometimes 4:3 he lost three stone but he blamed me for putting it back on when I was snacking my way through the steroids and he had to keep me company lol

It's difficult Lily-Anne isn't it? Sometimes I think we should be glad to be healthy, but getting the balance between some sort of fitness and healthy eating when steroids are in the mix ?

Just trying my best as I'm sure you and all the ladies are and the men love to blame their eating habits on us! Lol

Your right you have to be ready to diet or no diet will work .. I tried the 5:2 diet didn't work for me but I know it did for others... We are all different and need to find a diet or new lifestyle that fits with you ... Good luck with your fight πŸ’ͺ🏻πŸ’ͺ🏻

My darling hubby just bought me a teal coloured Fitbit Alto (6 days ago) . I've found it really useful as it monitors all my steps and it's so good to see how far (or not some days!) I walk throughout the day. It also lets me know if I haven't walked at least 250'steps in each hour so I can get up and move for a few minutes to meet that target.

It's fun to use and see and every bit of exercise helps too I think

Take care

Hi Juliette

Wow what a response!

As females we don't change - we all look death in the face but still want to look our best!

As well as everything else I had my omentum removed ( which was explained to me as a band of fat around my midriff) so if that was removed why does it now stick out further than my belly?

I have just gone back to SW as fed up of looking like an apple and 2 weeks in going good. I have also 'grown' on my back/midriff and belly and have given up looking at myself from the side in mirrors as just too depressing.

Fat is supposed to be there to protect vulnerable parts of the body so I assume it is doing its job protecting the parts that have been ransacked.

Don't have any proactive advice but to just keep wanting to look your best although in a different shape.

Xx

Hi bev, yes I had my omentum removed too. But like your my belly is sticking out even further. Oh and now my hubby is checking how much suger is in stuff. It takes us twice as long to get round the supermarket, he as read somewhere that it's the suger not the fat what puts the weight on. πŸ˜›.lol 😊xx

Hi tay. Thankyou, our son is type two diabetic and he as cut sugar and carbs out, and his blood sugar levels have dropped and he too feels loads better for it. If you have any recipe 's what you could share to give me an idea what to make. My hubby not to keen on some of the things he has, like courgette spaghetti. 😏xx

Tay123 profile image
Tay123 in reply to Juliette35

Ha Ha …….yeah, I know what your hubby means. It's a bit trial and error at first with some of the recipes. But it can cure T2D. If your son is on meds, he may need to keep check as it does lower your BP and blood sugar and many have to stop taking the meds. But I'm sure he knows that. I've avoided diabetes as I was told I was pre diabetic last year, but not any more, I'm also off all the meds and pain killers I was on. I'll message you. xx
