Daily aspirin ?

Have read several papers that have said that taking daily aspirin may and I repeat may prevent cancer and cancer reoccurence. The evidence is not conclusive so I have not come across any firm advice on it. I have discussed it with my GP who said he could not advice me. What do others think?

I was just reading this on the Irish Mail on Sunday. There is a lady on here a retired gp who has good ideas on this, check drdru I think she is under. My onc wont do it for me because he says its okay to take if you havent had a diagnosis and he hasnt seen any papers to suggest it works for those with recurrence. Drdru is not too impressed and I will speak to my gp. Meantime I am stable but have to take a statin for cholestrol which is also said to be beneficial for OC

Hi Chris. I have been taking 75mg aspirin for many years long before I was diagnosed. This news has come up before on the site and I have often wondered if it delayed my recurrence . For many reasons I have not brought up the subject with my team as I have more pressing things to talk about recently. It would be great if such a simple and cheap drug would turn out to be the key to finding a cure . Meanwhile we will keep on hoping.

I spoke to my Oncologist about this, had recurrence after 3 years and just finished chemo. She said there is limited evidence that it may help but said "you've git nothing to lose to why not?" I have no problems that would contra indicate and am starting on 25mg 5 x per week based on research I have done. Hope this helps x

Hi Chris - I picked up the thread for this on the Macmillan forum I think and yes, aspirin as well as ibuprofen was being recommended. I have now taken ibuprofen every day. I checked with the onc team and all they could say was that it wouldn't do me any harm as they advise taking ibuprofen if I had any joint pain etc. So who knows? I'm willing to try almost anything!

Thanks for the reply, although there is limited evidence I like you are willing to try anything. Cheers Chris
