In my experience the nurses who do this will ask you a lot of questions. It's helpful to go along with a list of any medication or supplements you're on and to have reviewed your medical history as they'll need the info to fill in the forms.

Good luck xx

I agree. When I had mine the nurses were very thorough and went through everything with me. Pain medication, after care etc. You will be fine. Our minds work overtime before hand! You will feel sore and movement will be a little difficult at first- getting in and out of bed but they tell you the right technique. I didn't have any real pain as the medication they give you post surgery and send you home with deals with it. Just be kind to yourself afterwards and let everyone wait on you hand and foot! x

I had never had surgery before so had no idea what to expect and I just wanted 'it' gone so I went with the flow. I was anxious as well but as I had two young childfen I had to keep things as normal as possible so I just kept myself busy. By the time I went into hospital at the end of November my house was spotless, all my Christmas shopping was done and my hubby had a mountain of lists lol. good luck Carol, you will be fine, any pain will be well managed and the Dr's and Nurses are fab xx

Hi I am have total abdo hysterectomy 14/12 as well and am very nervous. At pre op I wanted to ask about anaesthetic but was told would have to wait until op day. Bloods and Mrsa swabs done. I asked about recovery time and abdo support. It's true most of the pre op is about the nurse talking to you about what to expect and about what happens on the ward when you come back from theatre I.e. Pain relief and observations and when likely go home. Many of your q's will be for the surgeon and anaesthetist on the day. Good luck!

I had an abdo hysterectomy 1987 in Saudi Arabia all they left was Fallopian tubes and ovaries for endometriosis It was around six months until I felt pretty much healed. Anyway the rest has to go now because I have a multi-loculated cyst which is suspicious. I am terrified if I'm honest! But, hope for a good outcome. I hope you are as well as is possible. You are in my thoughts and wish the best outcome for you also, love Carol x

I would ask for antibiotic cover to help you heal well. Not necessary but a thought to bring up. Possibly how long your stay would be, and what they want you to bring in. I found nighties for first day or so after operation quite handy. I suppose how long you are expected to be in recovery unit. Mostly these meetings are informative enough Wishing you the best of luck for both and keep in touch with us

I have my pre op assessment on Friday December 10th, I hadn't even thought about what questions to ask, so thanks for that! What date is your operation? Mine is Jan 7th - are you having to wait that long? x
