Hi ladies, IF my mum needed a bit more chemo as her ca125 has gone up to 288, how long would it be the second time round? Also, would she lose her hair again? She has been so upset today as she is just starting to feel normal again. Thanks in advance xxxx

Hiya

I'm halfway through 2nd line chemo. It does all depend on the regime that the oncologist recommends. I'm on Caelyx/Carbo and this thins the hair but you get to keep it. I'm also doing 3 chemo surgery and 3 chemo again. But again it does depend on the circumstances. When talking to my oncologist about 2nd line, she said it was a new regime and in that they don't often do surgery on second line, but theirs thoughts ( and results) show it to be a better proven regime. Her only concern was lack of surgeons and theatre time to fit in all those who could be suitable for surgery.

BUT until you know for sure what's occuring, you can speculate till the cows come home. It is a worrying time yes, but your Mum dealt with it first time round and somewhere inside we have this inner strength that just appears when we think we can't cope again.

Best of luck to you all

Dawn xx

If she has the same chemo as last time, yes. It worked

Last time so there's no reason to change it. I believe they always give you the full course is 6 cycles. I understand your mum was on the trial having her chemo weekly, I don't know whether she can have it like that again. If not it will be every 3 weeks. The oncologist might tell her the disease is still small and to leave well alone for the next 3 months as there is no benefit to rushing straight into chemo as soon as it rears its ugly head.

Let us know how she gets on. Ann xo

My second line was four and a half months but I didn't lose my hair and felt much better than the first time. I went away for a walking weekend after the second cycle of treatment ie about 5 weeks in, which I couldn't have done during my first chemo.

Hi, after my initial chemo debulking chemo (Carboplatin and Taxol) finished, after 4 months it was found that it had come back. I was put straight onto 6 lots of Carboplatin and Caelyx. First time round all my hair came out, second time due to a different combination of drugs none came out. It does take time getting your head round being rediagnosed as you are so pleased to have finished treatment and all will be looking good and you are probably feeling good as well.

Not what you're looking for?
