A patients perspective of the recent IS GO Conference in Lyrath

Hi Ladies and gents. Well I am alive to tell the tale. Seriously Sharon and Yvonne could not have done more to put me at ease. Thank you to both. Well I started well a brief resume of who I was and why I found myself speaking to the clinicians and Consultants present. I touched on how a Gynae Cancer Diagnosis affects our lives and we are filled with uncertainty. I added that patients waiting in a public area are stressed. I acknowledged the shortfalls the Staff have to contend with on a daily basis due to staff shortages etc. For us patients I said it was imperative every Gynae patient had a point of contact between reviews. I also added that Gynae Cancer was the poor relation in comparison to services in Breast Cancer. Finally I added my long term hope for PPI was to have a counsellor added to the team. Yes I was shaking at times but I am grateful I was well enough to be standing there. So I would urge you to keep an eye on the PPI section of the ISGO page. Do consider joining us at our next meeting in March or April 2018. Patients, family members and Reps from Patient Support Groups are very welcome.

Well done Suzuki. I’m sure you came across brilliantly because you are so passionate on this subject. I am just reading this at nine am the morning after the op. I’m being discharged today around lunch I feel fine thank God and the staff are very nice. Will tell you the gory details another time.

I will look at that page when i remember how to access it. Is your presentation on it. I have just been told I am being discharged today after a lesson on how to empty my drain . Take care as must get myself together .

Well done Joan although I knew that you will be able to teach the audience a thing or two.

Well done Suzuki !!! Thanks because those points are in my opinion too something that could be taken into action soon and I hope something will happen ! We all should insist on those at every meeting like the one you went.

Apologies for my ignorance but what's PPI section of the ISGO page? And where the meeting will take place in April? Thanks a lot.

Hi PPI stands for Public Patient Involvement. The group is made up of Gynae Cancer patients and family. It is also open to any member of a Cancer Support Group. ISGO is Irish Society of Gynae Oncology in Ireland. The aim is to link both patient group and Gynae together in a bid to make patient experience less scary for us ladies. No doubt there should be an announcement in early March of the next meeting. There is a Facebook page just started if you want to have a look
